Hi all, I have 4.5 years old girl called Oreo. Since middle of December I noticed slightly runny 1 nostril. The discharge is clear. She had a course of 2 antibiotics- 1 week long Enrocare and then just for 3 days Bytril. On some point she had clear discharge from the other nostril too . On the last vet visit the vet said that probably is not URI as she is eating and drinking well, she is happy and active. She doesnt loose weight.
On some point she lost interest of her nuggies / pellets but seems she eats some now.

Vet suggested to have just meloxicam 2 times a day 0.4 ml for 10 days. She still have this discharge from 1 of her nostrils almost the same as before.
I am not sure if it is good idea to examine her on X-ray because of the Anastasia as that was another vet suggestion if the problem doesnt clear out.

Have you experienced something like that.
Thank you

hi. Just bumping your post so experts can see :) how's Oreo now? hope she is better.

Is she sneezing as well? could it be a dusty hay?

Hi, thank you for asking!
She still have a bit nasal discharge almost the same as before .
She has been seen by vet 10 days ago but the vet says she looks absoliutly healthy . It is something in the environment that triggers the nose irritation...thst is what the vet thinks.
I did buy another box of hay from a company I bought before and hay is dust extracted but still no changes far!

I find my guinea pig hoots more when our central heating is set at higher temperature. I'm just wondering if it could be that? :) it's hard when you cannot find a reason

Dry air from central heating can be a common cause. Try adding a bowl of steaming water by the cage to humidify the air and see if that helps.
Hay dust is of course another potential factor.

To be honest the air at home is not dry -it is between 55 and 65 percent. I keep temperature at 19- 20 degrees. Next week I am going away for a week and she will stay in a sitter house. Will see if there are any changes. The girl that will look after her is experienced with guinea pigs ...so will see if there is any change.
