Sampson - he is very poorly now

Sad news on Sampson, I am afraid.

It has been such a roller coaster - we started thinking dental (as per my vet too), Simon ruled dental out but found enlarged lymph nodes. Thinking lymphoma or mystery bacterial infection. Sampson picked up and actually lymph nodes shrank back down so had an xray and held back on biopsy.
Xray showed bad arthritis on back knees and 4 stones in between kidney and bladder. Talked to Simon on Friday about pain management. So basically theory is 'hidden' pain had led to lack of eating and weight loss.

He was meant to come home today but suddenly yesterday he went downhill and struggled breathing.He is still at Debbie's but is now very poorly, not eating and things are pretty dire. He is on zithromax, metacam and has had a diuretic.

Debbie is preparing me for bad news, he is v sick8.... But she is giving him the best care and is queen of syringe feeding which I am sooo greatful for. I just feel very far away and useless. I could not be syringe feeding him though as I mashed my hand with a blender yesterday (really) and so was in A and E yesterday. It has just been a disaster of a weekend.

So sorry Samson is poorly, do you think on pain relief he will have any quality of life left, or is he beyond this in your eyes. It is a sad fact of pet ownership when we are left with a sick pet wondering what their best interests are and what option to take when.
 
Gosh I cannot believe how many health issues he is having right now. I am really sad to hear this.
 
The little guy is on my lap right now. He's just had a little syringe food although he can only manage a very small amount. I've been chopping up veggies and grass with scissors to make it easier for him to manage and he has been able to eat a few pieces. It's so awful to see him looking so poorly and my heart goes out to Laura being so far away. I am keeping her updated on how he's doing. We will be waiting on the doorstep of Cat and Rabbit Clinic tomorrow for Simon to arrive.

i really feel so sorry for you being so far away from your little man but know too that he could not be in better hands than Debbie's, she will be caring for him as if he were her own.
 
Laura I know you are devastated knowing Sampson is so unwell, what a shock that his health has turned for the worse, everyone is rooting for him.
Please phone me anytime for a chat as I know your accident yesterday is yet another blow.

So sorry to hear that Sampson has taken a turn for the worse, we've all been keeping our fingers crossed for him. Hoping for better news very soon.

Sorry to hear you piggie is so poorly, we have had pigs with kidney stone issues, it's a tough thing to deal with - sending you all our best wishes

Thanks for everyone's kind words and support. PS&P is right, Debbie is doing everything she can for Sampson even though she lost a piggy on Saturday so is exhausted from that.
I would be crossing my fingers if they weren't in splint and dressings. Please, please pull through Sampson.

I haven't been able to get Sampson off my mind today, he and you = (((big hugs)))
 
Very sad to say that Sampson has gone - he didn't make it through the night. We are terribly sad and my heart goes out to Debbie who had another death to deal with. He was peaceful and his best friend Gregory was with him.
 
I am feeling so sad, not just for Sampson, but for Laura and her family, who didn't get the chance to say goodbye. However, Sampson did have his very special friend, Gregory, with him at the end and I am glad he was able to pass peacefully with his mate by his side.

It's been a very difficult and sad weekend here at the Sanctuary.
