Adult Guinea Pig
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hope the vets can finally get to the bottom of this.
Thank you! We need the healing vibes, I'm so nervous. Especially with treating him and the 4 girls atm I'm a bag of nerves!
I hope so too, I really want to get this sorted asap as I can't take this much longer. It's so upsetting to see him like this![]()

I hope tomorrow brings you some answers and poor Iggy some comfort.

I so sorry to hear that it didn’t show the issue. It’s so frustrating for you.
So Iggy is at the vets for his X-ray. Wow, I didn't realise how hard it would be to leave him there. Since he came to me there hasn't been a single day that he's been away from the house for more than an hour and he's always been with me when he has.
I know it's silly and he's only having a whiff of gas if needs be but I'm so worried. Now I have a restless wait til 4:30 when I pick him up... Waiting... Sigh!
Poor Iggy! Ouch! That's sore and must REALLY hurt!
Fingers very firmly crossed that you can get some answers!
I bet it does
Sadly no answers to be had, I'm still waiting for the X-rays to be sent to me but they have said they don't see anything abnormal and no stones.
Am I okay to put something like Vaseline on Iggy's willy? It looks really sore, I don't know why it has got like that![]()
I don't think that it will do any harm re. his willy.
Sorry that you are still none the wiser. mystery illnesses can be sooo frustrating - it is like a murder hunt with some vital clues missing...![]()
Thanks, I might do that to see if it will help.
Honestly I don't even know what to do any more![]()
I wish I could help you, but this is way out of my comfort zone.![]()
That's why I'm worried, you have the answers to everything usually![]()
Thank you for everything you've done though, it's been really great knowing I have yours and everyone's support on this. I'm so out of my depth and the only thing I can think could be the problem is an internal injury by the botched neutering.
Do you know of any other cases where a vet has caused damage during a neuter that's needed to be corrected?
I have heard of the odd botched neutering op over the years, but generally issues have manifested immediately or within a few weeks.
My Nosgan's hernia is a very late rare post-op complication. I've adopted him as a neutered boar over a year ago.
Well his issues started immediately after the op and have never gone away (we had a brief month of respite in 6 months I think) so it's the only thing I can think of. Before his op he was a perfect piggy, no problems at all.
What I'm thinking is that there's been damage between his urinary tract and his bowels (leaking urine from his anus for a few weeks after neutering and constant infection since) but would something like that show up on an X-ray? I still haven't got them through on my email but will post when I get them, so frustrating.
I doubt that it would show up on an x-ray as it is a soft tissue damage. I am very sorry; it sounds like a distinct possibility.![]()
Okay thanks, that helps a lot. Is there any kind of scan you can do to see if that's what it is? I don't know anything about what shows up on X-rays or ultrasounds haha.
If this were the case, would it be fixable? The sad emoji has me worried now aha.
My suspicion is that at the very best, only an exploratory op may find what is wrong; and that comes with its own risks. You really need an experienced vet to speak to.![]()
Yes I was worried that might be the way we're heading. The thought of him being operated on again scares the life out of me but it's for him.
You're right, I'm at the point where I need to get to Northhampton somehow but I have no idea how. I'm guessing Simon would be the best person for the job? Will I need a referral?
Just wanted to send my love, I am afraid I have no advice at all to offer x
