Pigs are inside anyway for the winter.
I have one rabbit inside, he was getting really freaked out at the winds and its not even started yet! Like everytime someone walked past his hutch, he ran into the bedroom area. Since I have moved him inside, he has calmed down loads. He is in an 80cm indoor cage with some area to run about whenever he wants.

The winds are really picking up. We haven't had any rain today, just really bad wind.

I had to help my dad move the chickens today. Not fun!
 
My guineas live free range in our shed with an open hutch. Am thinking about bringing the hutch into our utility room to be on the safe side. Am worried because they're not used to being in a closed hutch, and it's not massive. Because I'll be at work tomorrow they might end up indoors for 24 hours - do you think they'll be ok with that. Thanks so much fir all the advice on this thread :)

I’m sure they’d be fine with that, at the end of the day you got to do what you got to do to keep them safe! At least if they’re indoors it will put your mind at rest :)
 
A gusty day today for some and already we have trees down across the south from Essex to Dorset, chicken coop roofs flying off and many homes in Pangbourne without power. But these gusts are generally much weaker and from a different low and unconnected with the storm to come early tomorrow morning so expect a lot more disruption tomorrow.

Met Office have now released the likely path and timings for strongest winds.

Rain running in front of the storm is just starting to hit the south west.....due in Brighton approx 7pm ahead of the winds. Edit - sudden gusty squall just started here in Sussex, Sky signal has gone and lights are flickering!

Environment Agency now have 3 flood warnings and many flood alerts - nice to see they were round today checking my stream!

NB West Country - BRISTOL, BANES, BURNHAM, N SOMERSET, MENDIPS - now expected to be hit by worst 80mph+ winds between 3 and 6am, owing to pressure surge now associated with this developing but still unpredictable storm. Do not travel on the M5 at this time as the crosswinds will be dangerous. You can keep an eye on your region by following Ian Fergusson

East Anglia/Norfolk coast - again you are looking to receive the worst of the winds as the low exits into the north sea...."as the low gets really caught up against the high pressure as it heads north east there may be some very strong gusts Yarmouth areas around 7-8 am in excess of 80mph on the southern edge of the storm"

TRANSPORT: Many train services across England from East Anglia to Cornwall are now cancelled/not running until after 9am . Airports are making adjustments to flight schedules. Please check before you venture out to go to work tomorrow that you CAN actually GET to work

The next model runs are about 21.30 so will give try to give a final update later if I haven;t been flooded or had a power cut by then...

Thank JB........I'm happy to help everyone keep themselves and their piggies/chickies/bunnies etc safe.

This is not a usual weather event for the UK...and in fact is showing marked similarity to the 87 hurricane in terms of the weather models...albeit not as severe. Thankfully we now have supercomputing that has predicted this one......In 87, poor old Michael Fish took the flack, but there was no way at that time the Met Office had the capacity/knowledge/computers to predict this type of really unusual weather event that could take a "sudden turn" at "the 11th hour". All we can do is treat St Jude's storm with respect, be prepared and be sensible. Even now, it is still unpredictable and could still develop a "sting jet"..and it will only be through actively watching it unfold over the UK over the next 8 hours that accurate predictions/warnings can be issued with short timescales...using the information gained from the 87 hurricane which was the first example of a "sting jet" the UK became aware of.

Would like to stress - this storm will NOT be as severe as the 87 hurricane...but it has the same rare type of weather modelling characteristics.

Don;t envy you your journey tomorrow morning. If you are going by train i think you;ll find they won;t be running until after 9am...you can check websites now as most have already put announcements on. If you are going in your car then please check traffic and local council sites before you set off.

..hee hee.....yes we too had "the calm" earlier....and have one again now.........as in the calm before the storm. It's quite eerie!

Unfortunately it will start to get a bit more lively by midnight

Going by our local forcast we are down to the low 50's with the wind gusts and dropping. They are saying our biggest risk is flooding. Luckaly i am on high ground although my garden is going to be a mess in the morning as being on the bottom of the hill the water runs down into mine.

We're near Basingstoke so not too close to the coast. I think we may just get away with it but we'll see. Aiming to work from home tomorrow.

We typically go jet skiing on the coast though and hav'nt been able to launch (Calshot) for the last two weeks which is giving me massive withdrawal symptons ( we are offshore skiers not the sort who cause loads of problems on beaches, we just love the freedom of open water)! The sea and the power she has in those waves is amazing. We were caught in a force 5 off Brighton 8 weeks ago and it was amazing...a little frightening if honest but the enormity in the size of those waves was incredible and that was nothing to compared to whats going on now. The weather is something to behold, hence my respect now.

Heavy rain just started...guineas in lounge listening to rock music on sky LOL!

Just rung my parents to make sure dad has secured everything down, honestly, he was so busy was x factor! Don't think he was listening, it wasn't just the fact he needed to secure the sheds and garage and about a tonne of stuff in his garden but the fact the wind may well upset my Mum as she has dementia. So he needed to ensure she got to bed At a good time and hopefully sleep through it. The dog will be upset as well because the gates rattle. HONESTLY!
 
It's been blustery here today, but it's so calm now, scary to think its going to change so quickly. Fingers crossed everyone stays safe. Xx

Don't know what to expect here, the line on the map marking the edge of the storm's path seems to run directly through where I live. Wonder which side I will be on? The pigs and buns are all safe anyway and i am not letting the cats out, mmmm, they might have something to say about that later.
 
just read a headline about the storm that is hitting the UK...sounded pretty serious. i know i said this earlier, but please be safe!
 
Nothing going on here... Bit blustery at 4am but not only is my slanty tree still standing, my plastic garden chairs haven't moved.
 
It's amazing how localised its been. Was really nasty between 5-7 this morning but much calmer now thank goodness. Hope it stays that way. Guineas seem v happy eating their breakfast in the shed even with the wind howling around so clearly not bothered!
 
I got lucky and the wind hit the front of my house and came over so the shed was well sheltered. Everyone is fine this morning. The guinea pig girls summer hutch cover has some minor damage but other than that everything made it through. The girls are loving being indoors but sadly they will have to move back out my landlord won't allow them to stay in :0 .
 
It's dry, overcast and reasonably calm in west Cumbria. ;)
 
Windy and rainy here, but nothing out of the Norm really..... fingers crossed this is as bad as it gets.
 
Well I think we escaped quite lightly here, we only had the rain in the night, didn't seem all that heavy either.
Sunshine and showers here now. Sorry for those of you that were in the thick of it, hope you are all ok.
 
Not too awful here but was very hazardous driving to work this morning, lots of wind and trees down. All trains were are still are cancelled too so the OH had to work from home.
 
Couple of trees down and part of the town without power but not too bad here now. My Dad couldn't get to work and his office has been closed for the day so we are having a nice family day ^_^

I am really scared! The storm is hitting US (Copenhagen) and i am REALLY freaking out. I keep going downstairs to the piggies and making sure they are safe and not as scared as i am! There is a HUGE old tree outside our window and if that falls on us.. i might faint. Every 2 minutes there comes these Real strong winds and i really cant bear to see birds struggling to fly and getting trapped in tree branches! :Ayociexp118: We aren't getting much rain. Only the odd hailing. On the weather website for denmark (Link: http://www.dmi.dk/vejr/ ) and if you read the warming (Aktuelt) it says DMI warning on storm. Wind at hurricane power. I really hope this doesn't pass england (or if it has as it is now.. Monday afternoon) as i am really nervous if those piggie hutches fall down and can risk the death of our beloved piggies. Please do make sure you piggies are safe, and if you can please do take them inside so they can remain calm. (and so can you ;))

Storm passed over UK on it's way to you over night, far less damage than predicted, although it was still developing on it's way through the UK so It's probably a lot stronger over Denmark, stay safe!
