Well there we go a cage made entirely from scratty plastic grids id kept outside for a year and a plastic base I had custom made for me at work some time ago. 3 1/2 x2 cage from scraps :D will suit them until the shed is up and their new housing is built in there me thinks :-) excuse the liquid thats me drowning it in cleaner as its just been stored in the yard not under cover or anything. For anyone who knows me yes the spare bed has Cath Kidston covers haha. Accessories to be added later, I only have plastic houses and stuff that again were stored in the yard but ill do them another night.

Good job, Bekki :) What did you make the base out of - it does not look quite like correx?

I know what you mean about spaces for animals and humans - my two teenage children and I moved from a 2 bed house where I slept on a sofa bed in the lounge with 5 pigs! We now have a 3 bed house so I have my own bedroom - and we have 7 pigs.Like the extra human news!Sounds like your shed is going to be like Boss Hogs in the winter - seem to remember him saying a year or so ago his was like Tahiti!

We would keep them in our bedroom but I cant sleep with them in there at all and a whole night with them made my eyes and chest bad, they used to be in the spare room but a lodger moved in there and now my brother is only other space is living room but again allergies make that fun and I couldnt hear the tv over them (I may be pig mad but the lodger and OH werent, and the brother hates them) and it was an awkward squeeze because the dog goes in there so had to be commercial cage up high. I cant wait to get the sheds sorted. Nice to hear your housing malarkey ended well :-)

Oh its not correx :D its solid plastic custom made to my size the guys at work made it for me last year. Its like 4mm thick solid plastic (its very heavy) so its like chewproof. So when I said I got rid of everything it wasnt quite true I kept this as I was going to drill it and turn it into a planter in the yard but hadnt got around to it yet. The base was made to the mm at the largest size I could possible fit in my car .... old tiny yaris :-) The plastic is chemical resistant so piggies if you magically spew out hydrofluoric acid you aint going to ruin my house!

You have very useful workmates, Bekki!
Yup, I rabbit sitted for 3 weeks whilst he was on holiday I got this as a thankyou ... works for me more animals to snuggle and free awesome stuff. I have a hay loft thing thats 1.5 x 2 grids big in the same plastic but I dont have any more grids so cant use it at present. If they aren't dead popcorny I might just pop it on some legs and hamster playpen grids around it to give a little extra height but we shall see.

And thats a 10kg sack of harringtons purchased, not my first choice of food but cash flow isnt great (not skint like can afford the pets just liquid money is lacking this month) and I added it on to my amazon subscribe and save order coming 7th June (3 months worth of cat, dog, rabbit and piggy food/other supplies in one delivery with 15% discount still like £100 but nvm) they've been fed excel which I wont touch as I dont like burgess as a company harringtons is about equal so its no hardship to the boys.

I may whip up a cage liner for them on my sewing machine too. I have my suedecloth (wicking like fleece but hay doesnt stick, mainly used as a stay dry layer in cloth nappies and csp too) and zorb (specially designed for cloth nappies and CSP so its massively absorbent, very fast drying, light and lasts a long time) so just a case of whip it through the machine. I had meant to do it for previous pigs I just never got round to sewing it.

lucky piggies. I made the downstairs bedroom into a piggy room when my niece moved out as couldnt have them in the living room as the dog wouldnt leave them alone. She is mesmorised by the rats now but they dont bother, just stare back at her.

If we had a third bedroom they'd stay in :-) If we didnt have an 8 seater dining table they'd fit in my dining room but that cost me a small fortune so no chance I'm getting rid of it and its high future proof, us 2 kids and the in laws also maybe my brother can all fit. All food eaten in my house is eaten at the dining table ... I'm very old fashioned like that :-) I used to have my second bedroom as a piggy room and I loved it but we need that room now, they're going to be in there until we sort the shed though but my brother isnt back for a few weeks yet so itll be fine. Oh my rats nip my dogs nose! Its hilarious!

We do plan to extend into the loft though to give a third bedroom with ensuite, or a third bedroom and then a 4th "baby" room (you know those bedrooms that are called a bedroom but fit a single bed and a bedside cabinet with nothing else? That might start next year or the year after depending on finances (might get it floored this year though).... big plans I know and further plans to add another room downstairs to be the new dining room (it will connect the brick outhouse we are getting build and the kitchen together), leaving 2 reception rooms and then a conservatory also ... just need the moolah! so its likely the pigs will move back in at some point in their life lol!

@Bekki tell me more about why you don't like Burgess as a company? I feed excel, and am worried now!

Also I'm googleing this suede cloth and CSP... whats that? I thought I was pretty knowledgeable on cloth nappy making etc, but never heard of CSP!

@Goth Mummy - Some of their top dogs (the burgess family as a whole) are very active in the fox hunting community and its not exactly kept secret or it wasnt a few years ago it may have all been swept under the carpet now, ofc all companies have secrets but still I dont want to support them in that. They also charge an absolute fortune for their hay and promote the use of the daft term "fibrevore" and their feeding system I just dont like that. Personal thing I think.

CSP is cloth sanitary protection :-)

Oh fair enough, yes, I can understand your concerns on that. Fox hunting is banned now though, isn't it ;) though we all know there are ways around the hunting with dogs laws. My lot like the burgess excel with black currant and oregano. I have not tried Harringtons.

Oh, I thought CSP was a new type of ultra absorbent fabric! like bamboo fabric or something! D'oh! x

Hunts still go on, they just work around the law most of the time and openly flout it other times. I am in charge of fundraising for Herts Hunt Monitors. My OH goes out with the rest of his team monitoring the hunt for any illegal activity. Sabbing basically but they are not affiliated with the the HSA and try to work with the police to stop the hunt.

I'm not a fan of harringtons (its owned by WAGG so there are probably issues behind that company also) but everything is due and these piggies were not planned so needs must, they've been on excel anyway so its no major change to them. Once its gone they will get something else, probably JR Grainless if theyll eat it zooplus do enough that I can get cat and dog food etc and get over the minimum shipping thingy. I'm lucky that my choice of cat, dog and rabbit food are all on amazon though.

Wheeeeeeek piggies shortly :D

Pizza & Parmo are great names. Very original! Soooooo exciting, bet you can't wait. Only 3 more sleeps to go.

Been a busy bee since I got home

progress on their cage liner, for anyone who sews I have literally sewn it inside out left a turning hole and turned it, I need to topstitch but this thing is heavy so I need a rest. Only got enough fabric to make one but ill manage. For anyone who missed my post earlier its navy suedecloth top (its a wicking layer used in cloth nappies and cloth sanitary pads but hay doesnt stick to it/it brushes down really easy) with a full layer of Zorb (a material specifically designed for the cores of cloth nappies and pads which holds 3x as much as terry per layer, but dries super fast) and its just backed in grey cotton. In terms of cost the suedecloth was £15, the zorb £13 and the cotton £5 so not a cheap do (also not something I could make to sell at any profit, but perhaps I could make for friends at some point) but vs buying a fleece liner with batting in from anyone who makes them ... still not a bad deal and a heck of a lot less annoying than fleece with towels under :D I know it doesnt look like much but I'm well chuffed with it :D just need to do the stitching around the edges to seal the turning hole the white poking out in the bottom left is the turning hole. Its a little big as the zorb shrinks when washing (cant prewash it as its like a felt material) ... and yes I sew cloth pads - for charity and will shortly be doing nappies too which is how I came to know about these fabrics actually.

2 new water bottles ordered ... got some old ones lying around but they dont match each other so I ordered new. If this falls through I shall certainly be looking for some pigs elsewhere.

You did a good job! Are you going to make them any other fleecey things?

I hope it does not fall through! I'm sure it wont :) The pixie rescue lady is your friend, isn't she?
Where did you get your Zorb? That is really hard to get hold of in the UK isn't it?

I find the fleece/towels thing annoying and hard work in some ways, but we struggle to cram everything in the wheelie bin with 5 pigs, the rabbit and the dog and toddler still in nappies so its kind of essential that I had to go back to fleece. I am going to investigate suede cloth though! I'm sick of hovering fleece with hay stuck to it...

I will be making a snuggle sack and a tunnel, I have batting anyway and suedecloth so I just need some boning. Ill post a photo when I'm finished the cage liner, was actually easy vs other things I sew just massive and heavy and my machine needed a bit of human help as its pathetic feed dogs didnt like the weight so muggins had to hold the weight.

The pixie lady is my friend, they're coming straight to me from their previous home its whether they actually turn up or not. If it doesnt work out she has some lady pigs I can have.

Zorb ... plushaddict.co.uk I just got zorb 1 the basic older style as I prefer it in terms of sewing

Suedecloth .... plushaddict.co.uk only in white on there though but its stain resistant but being synthetic I wouldnt hold much hope for dying it easily. I bought my navy lasty year from a nappy maker I have emailed her to see if she still stocks it as she did a few basic colours like red, navy, white etc

We have no bin space either, the cat litter we change daily as its in the dining room so that uses a lot of space and we have a rat cage done weekly ... I'm lucky with the buns being litter trained they only have one small tray emptied 3x a week so its not as bad but its still full every fortnight without the toddler in nappies!

Progress shot :-) just from spares and stuff id kept in the run outside but for now it will do :-) obviously the tray needs further work to clean it up nice
