I think Fudge will have to be PTS today :(

I noticed he was not moving in his cage last night, his fur was really ruffled and his eyes were crusty.

He let me stroke him which he doesnt usually like, as he runs away and I noticed he was squeeking when pooing.

He refused a carrot - not normal for him and he won't eat or drink. I tried to mash some carrot but he wasnt having any of it but managed to force some water in him.

I was going to take him to the vet this morning but it looks like he's taken a turn for the worse :( his breathing is really raspy and he's having trouble keeping his head and body up. He's trying his best to walk and get in a comfy position but he can't, and he's making really sad squeaks.

His eyes are barely open and his body seems a bit misshapen somehow.

I am still going to the vet when it opens but trying to prepare myself for the worst. I can't bare the thought of having him PTS but I haven't stopped sobbing seeing him in pain like this. I really don't see what the vet can do as he looks so ill.

I just don't want him in any pain :(

I'm really sorry. I know it is such a cliche thing to say but it's true; at least you don't have to see him in pain anymore.

I'm sure you gave him a fantastic life so if it is his time to move on, you should take pride in the fact that you made his life fun, peaceful, & gave him a loving home.

Losing any pet is hard. Just stay strong & know that you have a lot of support. <3

I'm so sorry for you. Seeing our fur babies in pain is so very hard. If the vet cannot help him then the kindest and bravest thing you will ever have done for him is having him pts.

Thinking of you both x

Just back from the vet.

Fudge has crossed the rainbow bridge :(

We are devastated and I feel so sad bringing his little box back in the car empty :(

I am so very very sorry. I am tears reading this as I am probably about to go through the same thing with my little Sydney. RIP little Fudge x Big hugs x

I'm so sorry to hear that. It took me days to come to terms with losing Nugget and though it's been two years I still can't believe he's gone.

RIP Fudge, you will be sorely missed. 8...

I am so sorry for the pain you are going through. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks to everyone. I had to go to work straight after so it's been an awful day. He was only 2.5 so I did not expect this.

I can't believe he went from ambling about munching hay to that sick in one day. I keep torturing myself if whether I could have spotted it sooner he would still be with us. The strangest thing was, I might never have spotted it - I usually check on them before bedtime and top up their hay/water but the dog went up whilst I was downstairs (he loves the guineas) and barked (he never barks). When I went up he was lying next to Skunk & Fudge's cage and that's when I noticed him.

We weren't given the option of staying with him or not, and I was too upset to say anything, which I do regret now. I don't know if that's normal for pigs though?

The vet said he might have shock - possibly due to a new food, as when he arrived at the vet he had begun to have diarrhoea. I've never heard this before, from his symptoms I had guessed either URI or bladder stone - his breathing was raspy, squeeking while pooing, not moving, not eating/drinking. This made me feel even worse as we did change their food around 3 weeks ago as a lady gave us a huge bag of gertie guinea and we thought it was a shame to waste it. I really hope the vet is wrong otherwise I'll never forgive myself. I'm terrified for the other piggies now, especially his brother.

The loveliest little pig:

So sorry you have lost Fudge, I can't imagine it would be the food for one second, please don't beat yourself up on this, your grief is enough to be dealing with at this time without guilt. Unfortunatley piggies are very good at disguising their illness.

I am really sorry once again, I know how you are feeling. Big hugs to you
x

He was a beautiful, darling boy. I am so sorry that you have had to go through this. Losing them young is very hard. Please don't torture yourself thinking you could have done more.

I'm sorry, but I can't see how changing their food around three weeks ago would have created the problems you describe. There was obviously much more going on.

Thinking of you, and of darling Fudge at the bridge tonight. x

OMG i'm so so sorry to hear about darling little Fudge 8...8...8...
