Fibreplex is a highly fibrous food supplement; it is very good in helping to steady the guts. Science recovery is one of the syringe food mixes.
Ernie is certainly getting all the help he can get. It is a very encouraging sign that he hadn't stopped eating altogether.

PS: You can find more tips and information on all the brands mentioned in our hand feeding guide. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/complete-hand-feeding-guide.115359/

Sending best wishes. I know how worrying it can be when they are so poorly. Just keep in mind you are doing everything possible to give him the best chance at recovery. The vet and you are trying hard to give him the best chance to pull through. He is trying to eat his hay, so this is a positive sign and he is getting round the clock care to support him whilst he recovers.

Sending all best wishes to Ernie and let us know how he is doing when you phone the vet.

Thank you ! I will definitely update you all on how he's feeling once I've phoned the vet. :)

anyway.. thank you all for help&support! Goodnight for now, and I hope to hear some good news from the vet in the morning!

I have just phoned the vet surgery ( i don't have the vets phone number) and they said they haven't heard anything from Kirsten, so they just asume that nothing's changed and that he's doing ok. They said that she will be back at work tomorrow, and so that she will be able to update me on how he's doing. I'm picking him up at 6 on Monday, can't wait to see him!

Wishing Ernie and you all the best and hoping that he is much better in himself by the time you pick him up!

It sounds like he is holding his own, otherwise you would have heard something. The fact that the vet has not contacted you, must mean he is doing OK and responding to treatment.

Best wishes to Ernie and hope he is much better by the time you pick him up tomorrow. He is in the best hands and will be getting best care, so you cannot do any more than you are doing.

Let us know how he is when you pick him up, what the vet thinks is wrong and what is the treatment plan going forward.

Thank you, I hope he'll be a lot better. I will let you know how he's doing, as soon as I pick him up. Thanks for the nice thoughts and support!

UPDATE :

Ernie is feeling a lot better now ! I got the call fron the vet at about 1:05 today, and I was really worried, that it might be something bad.. So anyway I picked it up, and the vet said that Ernie has made really good progress throughthe last days! He has started to eat on his own now, but he still doesn't drink by himself just yet... So they're going to keep him until Wednesday to see if he's making any more progress!

Thank you for all the support you have shown over the past few days! It really means a lot!

Now that Ernie is better, and he hopefully will be even better by Wednesday, I will carry on updating you on how he's doing! :)

Ohhh how wonderful! So happy to hear that, go little Ernie!!

That is great news and you must be so relieved! It is always so much worse if it comes right on the heels of you losing a piggy to a similar issue.

I hope Ernie continues to pick up. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Great news! I am so pleased for you! Ernie is showing fighting spirit, so I am sure he will continue to pick up and be even better by Wednesday. These things take time and I am sure these little ones know when you are fighting for them as well. You will be so relieved. It is always a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions when they are poorly and each day they pick up, you are willing them on.

I have just gone through dealing with my poorly guinea pig and had to nurse him through about 10 weeks of care, with trips to the vet, medication, nursing and care, but he is much better now and each day is a joy to have him back to his old self, getting back to his old antics.

Let us know how Ernie is getting on, when you hear any more. We are all willing him on!

Thank you for the kind words! I am so relived to hear such good news! And it's also great to hear that your piggy got better too! :)

I have just picked him up from the vet! And he is sooooo much better! He's eating & drinking (from a small dish) on his own. He is much livelier ( is that the right spelling?) and overall seems really happy! Since I picked him up, he hasn't stopped eating! I am so happy & relieved! However, he still has to take antibiotics, but only until sunday (14th).
Thank you everyone for all the support and kind words you have said/given to me, it had really helped

Also, I have changed his bedding from woodshavings to fleece, is that a good idea or not?

Hi there. So glad to hear that Ernie is feeling much better. I had to check in for an update. It is a great sign that he is eating and drinking on his own and seems to be picking up. You must be so relieved.

As for the change in bedding, I am sure that fleece is better than wood shavings, as I think that wood shavings can be quite dusty still, which is not good for their respiratory system. The thing to remember about fleece though, is that it will need to be changed more regularly than wood shavings, when it becomes wet, so Ernie can enjoy it.

Great news about him being much better and thanks for letting us know the update.

That is wonderful news! I hope that Ernie will continue to recover.

PS: Please weigh him daily at the same time in the feeding cycle for next time and if necessary, top him up with hand feed. Contact your vet as soon as you notice a relapse.
