Hi! I have two guinea pigs. Patches (older) and Carmal (younger). Patches is taking food from my hand confidently, but Carmal does it a bit more skittishly. I made a post about this but the plan didn’t work out. I was going to connect a pen to their cage to let them come and go as they please (not 24/7). The problem is that Patches will come sometimes, but Carmal not at all. The pen is also not big enough for them to have a proper run (if I’m in it). I know it is suggested to give you piggies a hour a day or more. I don’t want them to become overweight. I also don’t want to ruin the trust I built. I’m aware that floor time can build trust though. I’ve haven’t tried lap time yet. Again I don’t want to ruin the trust. If you could give me your advice that would be great!

Thank you in advance!

Some piggies take longer to trust than others. In my time of piggy keeping we have had three really timid piggies. Putt who didn’t trust us to touch her till she was 5! But became our only lap pig, Vimto who tamed in a fashion in two years and ChickPea who we have now who will take food from me but doesn’t like being fussed or touched :))

You are doing nothing wrong just keep up with the hand feeding, trust will come :) at least you have one piggy that is more trusting of you so you know you can interact more there. Make sure I’m their run they have hideous to go into the prey reflex is so strong in guinea pigs it is important they feel safe.

You are doing well keep going!
