Teenage Guinea Pig
After an extremely quick deterioration yesterday evening our boy Domino (in my profile pic) passed in the night. I noticed he wasn't out grazing with his brother Gregory in the afternoon & when I went to bring them in at dusk, he was very sullen & breathing heavily. He spent all evening on my lap & I made him a makeshift pen in the house (my pigs live in a purpose built shed in the garden) so I could keep an eye on him but he passed in the few hours I went to sleep. He looked very peaceful this morning & although the children were very upset, we talked about how he was now with his brother Lightening who passed only 4 months ago. I bought a lemon & lime bush this week to go on Lightenings grave (which I'd been meaning to do for a while) & it seems very fitting now that we lay Domino to rest & plant that bush to remember them both later today.
We will miss him dearly- he was so placid & despite the loss of his brother & the introduction of feisty Gregory, he took everything in his stride. He was the one the children loved to hold as he was patient, calm & loving. He had a wonderfully free life, grazing from dawn till dusk outside in a big run & at
Little Gregory was hunting around for him this morning but he's out grazing now so seems fine. We will find him a pal in due course- he's 7 months so could be interesting times ahead.
A sad day but we will create a lovely space to remember him x
