After an extremely quick deterioration yesterday evening our boy Domino (in my profile pic) passed in the night. I noticed he wasn't out grazing with his brother Gregory in the afternoon & when I went to bring them in at dusk, he was very sullen & breathing heavily. He spent all evening on my lap & I made him a makeshift pen in the house (my pigs live in a purpose built shed in the garden) so I could keep an eye on him but he passed in the few hours I went to sleep. He looked very peaceful this morning & although the children were very upset, we talked about how he was now with his brother Lightening who passed only 4 months ago. I bought a lemon & lime bush this week to go on Lightenings grave (which I'd been meaning to do for a while) & it seems very fitting now that we lay Domino to rest & plant that bush to remember them both later today.

We will miss him dearly- he was so placid & despite the loss of his brother & the introduction of feisty Gregory, he took everything in his stride. He was the one the children loved to hold as he was patient, calm & loving. He had a wonderfully free life, grazing from dawn till dusk outside in a big run & at

Little Gregory was hunting around for him this morning but he's out grazing now so seems fine. We will find him a pal in due course- he's 7 months so could be interesting times ahead.

A sad day but we will create a lovely space to remember him x

I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you and your family my condolences, they leave such a big hole in our hearts when they pass. Xx
RIP sweet Domino.

Thanks for all your kind messages- Domino is now at rest with his brother and a very pretty lemon & lime bush. It was sad to see Gregory outside all by himself in the run so we brought him in for lots of cuddles tonight and he's sleeping in the indoor pen tonight. He enjoyed all the attention. Thought you might like to see some pics, last one of Domino last night & Gregory who looks like a little lion! x

I'm so sorry for your loss 😭one of my pigs died 10 days ago, and my other one died yesterday. I know what you're going through. 💜

I am so sorry for the loss of Domino.
I’ll be honest with you, Gregory is at the very worst age for a boar bonding. Your best bet is to have him neutered, wait 6 weeks and then get him a sow companion.

Thankyou. I know 😟 it's a dilemma I have been pondering. He's calmed down over the last week but he's still a very frisky chap. I was looking to increase to 4 pigs & seek 3 pigs from a rescue but everything I've read isn't positive on success rates for boars unless I have 10+ which is unrealistic, and with Gregory's age and our local rescue only ever seem to have sows! . I can try to switch to sows (by having him neutered like you say) but I do love my boars & was hoping to find some success stories. I also don't want anything to go wrong post neutering. I'm not really sure which way to go at the moment. I just want to do the right thing for Gregory so it will need some thinking about over the coming days x

He was almost 5 so had a good life & no illness at all. Quite surprised he went so quickly but it was a kind & calm way for him to pass. He was one of a litter of 4 born to my sisters pig who was pregnant when she was bought...my sister kept the girls & I took the boys. Just one sister left now & she's up in the lakes living a great life!

Yes I'm down to 1 piggie now but he's only 7 months so a bit of a tricky age so i'm considering getting him neutered & bring in 3 new pigs, hopefully from the rescue but will see. I've got a big outdoor run & a piggie shed so its a lot of space for Gregory....he looks a bit lost! Are you going to bring in a new buddy for your girl? X

Massive hugs to you, I am so very sorry for the loss of your gorgeous piggy. They had a wonderful life with you.

Sleep well little one

RIP Domino

Thankyou so much. Gregory is going for his pre op check tomorrow so very soon he will have a bunch of ladies to brighten him up! On the plus side, he's been handled alot more so he is much much tamer than before and after working away for 2 days this week he nuzzled into me tonight for the first time...special little fella!

The pig I had left was a borrowed a adult cage mate but I decided to leave her back to her old buddys, when my other pig died.
Now I'm looking for 2 or 3 new babies.
Oh I hope you'll find buddy for little Gregory then ❤ , yes maybe the best is to have him neutered.

Once again I'm so sorry for the loss, I really know what you're going trough.
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 hugs to you!
