Hi,

I took my boar to a "dating" session at a rescue yesterday. He spent about 15 minutes meeting this one boar until a fight broke out. They were separated a few seconds later. He then "dated" a 6 week old baby boar and they got along great. I adopted the baby and so far so good with them together. I was just checking over Odi (not the new baby) and I noticed this spot on his stomach. It wasn't there before he met the boar at the rescue, so I'm assuming it happened during the fight. I never saw any blood drawn. Does this look like a cut or bite? And if so, does it need vet attention? It is a bit hard to tell from the picture, but the black looking part is kinda squishy. Kinda like congealed blood. He's acting completely normal.

I'd take him to the vet to be on the safe side. If it is a bite, it may get infected. Take your little boar along too as a paw holder. It's always a good idea to have any new piggies checked out by a vet anyway. I adopted my old girl Patsy on a Saturday and by Monday morning she was being checked over by the vet.

Is it by his back leg and is there also a matching one on the other side? It looks like it could be his nipple but its hard to tell from photo without knowing the positioning

Hi!

Please take a deep breath - you have discovered a nipple. When you look in the same spot on the other side, you will find that he has two, like all boars; they look the same as sow nipples.

You can find a picture of the nipples in the first picture of the sexing guide (please double-check the gender of your baby anyway, who is also coming with his own set of nipples) and find out more about cavy body quirks that throw lots of people in the second. You are in good company, so don't don't feel embarrassed!

Hahahaha! Everyone is so right! That is definitely a nipple. I'm not sure how I never noticed it before. I guess his fluffy fur was always hiding it. LOL. Whew, such a relief! Thank you so much! And now I've learned something new. :)

Oh and yes, I will definitely check on the baby as well! Plus a wellness exam for him soon. Thanks everyone! :)
