Sneezing And Closed Eye

Well I am new to owning guinea pigs as we got them 5 days ago but yesterday I noticed her sneezing more than the usual amount so i picked her up and took out what i thought was the cause of the problem- a bit of hay in the corner of her eye. But today when she came out to get her veggies - something she never does in front of me - one of her eyes was closed and she obviously couldn't see. Now ( after we booked a vets appointment for tomorrow ) she has opened it a bit but she is squinting. I can't see her other eye and I didn't see if it was cloudy. She is eating ok, hasn't drunk anything this morning and is quite active.
What do you think is the cause and what can i do in the meantime before her appointment?
