Snickers sneezing

Now I'm pretty familiar with the whole URI thing when it comes to guinea pig health and I know their symptoms, but I'm not entirely sure.
I lost my Resees about a month ago, and a few days ago I noticed Snickers had congestion with the snorty sound from trying to breath from his nose, kind of hard breathing, a little wheezing, and sneezing. By the next morning he was completely fine, no problems at all. Now, all he does is sneeze and each sneeze is a little close to each other with snot coming out some times.

Other than that, I haven't seen any signs of problems. His exterior is healthy as in, he has a healthy coat, eyes aren't dull and no discharge ( all I see are sleepys in them ), he has that cute little slightly open curve to his mouth, he is alert as he's always been, remains to have a big appetite, drinks plenty of water, wheeks, still pop corns, no lethargy, and all that good stuff.

Is there anything I should be worrying about really? I know there are antibiotic treatments, but in all honesty I don't have any income to go seek a vet because I'm a little young, I mean I'm eighteen ( just graduated today ) but job demand here is so low it's ridiculous. It just bothers me that I can't provide for the little ones when it comes to getting them to a vet, it makes me feel like I've let them down, because I love them dearly. Not sure what I can do about the whole getting treatment thing. ;<

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

I understand what you mean when having to provide vetinary treatment, but sometimes it is absolutely necessary.
If you don't have much/any income there is the PDSA who have vets, and will see your piggie for free if you qualify under their regulations for it. And i'm sure if you don't have the money for it then you will qualify and it is free.
I hope this helps xx

Sadly, an untreated URI can kill. Sneezes can be down to pollen allergy, but snottiness needs to be checked out; it sounds like a catarrh.
Until you can see a vet, you can ease your Snickers' breathing with a tiny dab of vicks on his nose.

I am sorry you lost Reeses under such cirumstances, it does tend to make you more aware of your other guineas health too.

What you have described with Snickers could be down to some hay stuck up the nose, or an allergy of some sort, which can sometimes correct itself (as you found) or may require the reduction of allergens in the environment. The fact Snickers is otherwise well is encouraging. The occasional sneeze is fine, even a couple of sneezes close together can be normal.

It is worth thinking about the circumstances surrounding when he sneezes - is he in his hay? What is he bedded on? Does he sneeze more when his cage is dirty and due a clean, or does he sneeze more when he's got fresh bedding in?

I appreciate the posts you guys. Well, it's been about a day or so and he's completely fine now. He sneezes but it's every so often through out the day and that's it. He even started to popcorn like crazy when I had the vacuum on like he usually does. I'm keeping a good eye on him just incase any symptoms pop up again, but for now he seems pretty healthy. :)

I am glad that it doesn't look like URI. It's probably more down to dusty hay or a high amount of pollen in the air.

Yeah, I'm very glad too. I guess he got a little under the weather temporarily. He hardly sneezes now. I'm happy he's alright. <3 xx>>>

My pig Gertie sneezes. I usually find that it coincides with her hutch being cleaned, hay changes or anything. She has been like this for nearly two years.

She did get a little congested a few months ago. But i think she has hayfever like me as some days she doesn't sneeze at all.

All I do is monitor her breathing ( simply sticking your ear to the pigs chest), and wheezing needs to be checked. Keep a check round her eyes and nose. if anything changes I book the vet and come on here panicking LOL.

Vets for pets offer reasonable vetinary rates for small animals. My local VFP are coming back in favour now because they cured gertie's ring worm. Was a bit cross with them a few months ago.
