We thought you'd all like to hear about our past few days (Tuesday/Wednesday) and our 2 seperate rescues :{

Tuesdays Rescue
Helen recieved a call from a lady who needed to give up a 'colony' of 12 pigs, At he start it was 3 boars and 9 sows. I went with her and met he husband, he got out of the car and opened his car boot to find a pig had escaped and was sat on top of the boxes, he said thats a boar its out of that box.....so back in that box this 'boar' went on its own. In total we were given 2 cardboard boxes and 2 plastic boxes, they type you can store under a bed.
We drove back to mine to sort them out and re-box to find the 'boar' was infact a pregnant sow, one plastic box had 2 apparently sows which actually was 1 boar 1 sow! the other plastic box had a very heavy pregnant sow.

As for the cardboard boxes one had a beautiful himi sow, very young herself with 2 sow babies and a 5 week old Peru X sow. We opened the last box to find 3 boars but one had collapsed from the heat, probably from being in a car boot and our weather up here Tuesday was very hot!
Helen battled with him but he died in her arms 8... another boar was looking iffy but he has pulled through.

So this rescue infact ended up being 7 sows and 4 boars = 11-1 = 10 (she kept 2 in the end)

Wednesdays Rescue

Helen recieved a call from the RSPCA asking if we could help with a seizure of 69 pigs from the North East which had been left to fend for themselves in an allotment along with 60 rabbits which someone else took.
11am Wed they turned up, I was there to help poor Helen. So carrier after carrier was brought into her poor house and the sort out started.
I have never smelled anything so bad as these poor pigs.
In the end we ended up with 50 pigs (not 69) and only 8-9 were adult boars which SusieQ very kindly took to someone near her.
The rest were a mixture of tiny babies to heavily pregnant sows. We found the lactating sows and they were placed with all the babies. Boars who were old/big enough to not need mum were removed and there were 5 beauties x)

Some of these pigs had very small ears, some were chewed. Some have hairless stomachs. There was a few really skinny but pregnant sows, and 1 very skinny Abyssinian. There were a mixture of pure Abyssinians, crested, pure blacks but the majority are Tri's.

Unfortunatly we lost a sow, who just didn't look right since she got there, head was twitching and back legs splayed with an open pelvis so we monitored her, She ended up fitting so was rushed to the vets who performed an C section but the 6 babies were hairless and big so she was trying to abort obviously. Poor girl came back but not long after passed away. The whole experience was just too much but Helen did give her the best chances. RIP little Sow.

So now the work continues, we did start bathing yesterday and Ivermecting but some will take a while to pull round.

Well done Helen, once again you are a star

Luckily already all pigs are settled in foster homes

Oh what an awful couple of days! Sorry for the piggies that didn't make it but at least they had a chance. I hope all of the others are gaining strength now they're getting good grub and care. Sorry I'm too far away to help but well done for all your hard work and I'm sure all of us who have been in similar situations are feeling for you right now.

how sad that this can happen, but glad there are people like you to help..and sort out the mess!
There should be licenses on owning pets.. and having kids.. but lets not go there! x

Well done everyone you have done so well for these little piggies. Hope they are all ok.

Looking forward to seeing some pics once they are all well and sortedx)

OMG - that must have been right up with the top memorable days! So sorry about the two who didn't make it - it must be so gutting.

Sending vibes for the ones recovering!

I certainly hope the RSPCA are giving you backup, with the care of the piggies? Such as vaccinations and the like, and food?

well done! that is a lot of work for a few days! you both deserve a medal!

That's great Becky and Helen well done! The is nothing around here, god knows I look and put the word out! Seems that from Winter- to Spring is the worst of it here.

Glad the rescue is giving you help too, you couldn't take those numbers and not get help! Good luck with it!

OH MY GOD 8... just sobbing my heart out reading about your stressfull two days 8... R.I.P. little piggies that didn't make it :( I just don't have the words to say 8... Just thank god they are all safe now, it's such a shame that they had to suffer - no more suffering now bless them, just a long road to recovery. You are all miracle workers and my heart goes out to you all - I could not be strong enough to deal with what you have all just been through.

Dreadful couple of days. Looking forward to meeting up with you both tomorrow, to bring my piggies back for a bit of TLC. The numbers involved here have made this a very difficult time. Hopefully a happy ending now for all piggies involved. x

WOW, I can't imagine the heartache you've been through during this rescue. I'm so happy that you guys were there to respond to piggies in need.

A massive well done to all involved with Sokel rescue. It's a physical and emotional rollercoaster i'm sure and I know you all do an excellent job.
I'm glad they are all safe in your hands.
Claire

You guys are amazing-you too Becky as I bet Helen really needed your help! I admire you rescues so much x) well done and what a busy few days for you. Look forward to some piccies when you can take a breather!

Quite right Fiona - Becky was totally amazing the past two days and I simply would not have coped if she had not dedicated both days to helping out. It was hard, but would have been nearly impossible to do this on my own. Both Becky and her partner Mark have been brilliant.

I have spent most of today in bed - Graham entertained Daniel for me today (Graham's day off!).

The last two days have been hectic to say the least but we did it.

Basically the RSPCA allotment piggies and the Tuesday piggies have been spread over our foster carers as shown below:

Susie - 11 boars taken in total (8 going to Hutches Rescue).

Jane - 6 boars in total (1 adult - 5 babies)

Sam - 4 pregnant sows

Becky - 4 sows (1 baby and 3 pregnant sows)

Helen (me ) ha ha - 12 - (6 pregnant sows - 6 tiny babies)

Graham - 22 sows - (10 babies and 12 pregnant sows)

TOTAL : 59 alive - (2 died) - 61 in total.

I think that's right. As Becky explained we had two very sad deaths - one on Tuesday through sheer neglect and the other yesterday when a sow went in for a C Section and did not survive post operatively.

Many thanks to all of you involved in this Rescue - Graham and I cannot thank you all enough.

Lots and lots and lots of pictures will be posted over the next few weeks...

Love Helen.

Can't wait to see them Helen! Pmmed you about Space here as requested.

Your all Angels! Did Graham entertain Daniel with the goat? :(|)

x

Oh she meant hubby Graham...not Sokel hehe! See confusing a silly person here! :(|) x

First of all I have to say that Helen and Becky earned their piggy angel wings yesterday - you're both amazing x! xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

It was heartbreaking to see all those scared and starved looking piggies and i'm just thankful that they have been taken from where they were (the less said the better grrrr) and that there are people willing to do what they can to care for these vulnerable creatures. Out of the four that I have one of them is a little abyssinian who is painfully thin, she breaks my heart every time I look at her and I very much doubt she's ever been handled as she's terrified...i'll be a very happy lady if I get this one tip top! They have all had big drinks but arent eating much so i'm hoping this improves over the next few days if they start to chill out a bit...I want them to start to feel safe and consequently my living room floor looks like a farmyard cos I dont want to switch the hoover on and frighten them! Piggy slave? Yup! :))

Mine and Helens are the same, Helen said her fed on grass eventually so I've been out to get some and its working. Doubt they have ever seen vegetables etc 8...

Heehee! I know exactly what that feels like ;-)

well done to you all what a relief those poor pigs have been rescued by you x

Well done all of you ... you have done a fantastic job!

How people can be so neglectful of animals never ceases to amaze me. Why have pets if you don't look after them but unfortunately this happens alot and we can only be thankful that the owners acknowledged that they needed help.

I am keeping everything crossed for all these piggies (RIP the poor ones that did not make it :( .. run free in the lush green grass over the bridge little ones xx

Again, well done and thanks for all you are doing!
