Well, I tried to edit the photo captions but it won't allow it after five minutes and it won't let me delete the post to start all over again...

Here are the captions:
· The cage is a mess.
·The girls in their temporary cage being watched by my dog Duncan.
· Below the carpet.
· A dusted off and turned around carpet.
· Making sure they get the right amount of veggies.
· The rest of their food.
· A clean and ordered cage ready to be popped all over again.
· Oh my god,I just put them there and look at all that mess.
· The girls happy and eating their veggies.

Antonio, your daily work is not a news to me of course! anyway I was interested in your cage which looks very practical. I was thinking about a cage easy to assemble and disassemble, in case of some holidays somewhere. I see you have used those tubes: have you bought them in that size or did you cut them?
Tomorrow I will take some pics and I will show you my mess! :)) similar to yours...

It's hydraulic PVC. You buy it in 3 meters tubes and you have to cut it.

To make things easier you could put something in the small cage while you clean them out. Just some newspaper and some hay. They can munch the hay while they are in there and then you can easily throw away the paper after. Saves them getting urine all over their belly and feet if they are just in the empty cage.

Also you could try a couple of litter/hay trays in the bigger pen. Then you probably wouldn't need to clean the whole thing everyday, just the hay trays and then spot clean the poops.

Aww your guinea pigs are lovely. A hay tray is a good idea. My two adore their hay area!

They also have a fleece area for just chillin

this is my daily routine for cleaning the cage. But I don't find it hard.
This is the messy cage

100_6942 (2).webp
I pick up the fleece with the poo and the leftovers
100_6943 (2).webp
I throw everything on the floor
100_6945 (2).webp
and I sweep up the waste
100_6959 (2).webp
I hang the fleece outside to dry... maybe I should say "to bake/to burn" as today we have 37°C in the shadow... a hell...:gd:
100_6948 (2).webp
In the meanwhile my piggies can go to the kitchen arranged for their floor time and spend there all the afternoon
100_6967 (2).webp
they have some fun
100_6970 (2).webp
(but actually, despite my efforts, they are quite lazy during their floor time... they do popcorn only into their cage! :no:silly pigs!)
and this is their new clean cage.:) I have changed the fleece, I have no courage to open the window again!!

I love your fleece colors, especially the green one and I completely agree that opening the windows today was a mistake....soooo warm!

I forgot to tell you that pvc comes in different sizes. I used 3/4" pvc tubes.

My piggies haven't gotten floor time yet because they're still too jumpy and try to find places difficult for me to reach to hide. But I have one question: does your kitchen floor ends up being a mess (poop mess I mean) after your piggies' floor time?

My piggies haven't gotten floor time yet because they're still too jumpy and try to find places difficult for me to reach to hide. But I have one question: does your kitchen floor ends up being a mess (poop mess I mean) after your piggies' floor time?
Actually they poo only in certain corners, into the wooden house and into the box with the hay; there is no wee, too, only sometimes in a corner. Honestly I am not a maniac of the tidiness and I am lazy in cleaning up the house... But the kitchen is not in a real messy, just some string of grass, but as you can see I am using now a carpet. My piggies would stay always hidden under the cupboard, the are lazier than me! in fact long ago this was the situation:
100_6448.webp

then I decided to close the passage under the cupboard (and the piggies were very good in finding some little hole for going there again!)
Now I have found a good solution; there are tunnels made with old yoga mats and two "houses", an old doll house and a card box taken at the bins:
100_6688.webp
100_6874.webp
they don't nibble at the furniture (strange!); my old piggie I had long ago made some little damage at the chairs of the kitchen... These two piggies don't care of the wood of the room, in fact I leave them free even when I am not at home...
Unfortunately these piggies are very shy and run away when someone walks by; they don't come near my feet and for catching them I have to take them into the house (Calipso is smart and knows very well when it is time to be caught and she does not go to the house! she runs under the table, the chairs and I sometimes need someone else helping me!)
If you want to try, I suggest you those fences for garden which can be closed; you can arrange a side of a room taking advantage of the walls, some furniture and these fences (I have two).
It is important to make piggies walk and run for a lot of good reasons, also for ther health of their bladder which has always calcium residuals easily going to the bottom. Unfortunately their uretra is on the upper side of the bladder; running and moving the body makes something similar to those glass spheres with faint snow inside... when you move the sphere the snow never goes still to the bottom.

Ahh rome italy your guinea pigs have such a great life! Good point about encouraging them to exercise ...

You are good weighing the veggies, I'm not that organised

I love some of your ideas! The bread bin house is inspired!
ehehe! when I was into the shop I looked at that bin thinking and thinking again... we at home we hardly ever eat bread, therefore my husband asked me "what should we do with that bread bin?" and I replied "you will see!":D
My piggies love it

pets always look like their owners and my piggies are in fact quite lazy! they would spend the whole day sleeping under the cupboard... and I also need 10-11 hours of sleep a night, like newborns...:))

The bread bins are a genius little hidey idea, why didn't I think of that instead of spending a fortune on the wooden hidey's they have now

well, actually it was not a great bargain because it was not cheaper than a proper hidey... but maybe one day, when I have guests, I might use it for the bread!:)):)):))
