Oh my goodness thats dreadful :(

I'm sorry to hear about his eye, poor little soul and you must be out of your mind with worry :...

Please let us know how hes doing, x

I'm SO SO happy to announce that I now have him home and he's doing okay. <3

Thank you to those people who gave me supportive and kind words...<3 <3 <3

I am SO relieved...Just got him eating lettuce now...it's a massive improvement to how it looked before. <3 He just needs to grow his fringe back now! Bless him. <3

I've got baytril to give him for a few days as well...

awwwwww :( thats such a sad little photo but at least hes ok.

You caught it in good time, and hes home safe and sound. You did good x

Omg what a brave baby, so glad your vets were fab and got him sorted hun! he looks great considering what he has been through :(

Piggy huggles for him and you x

I am so thrilled he is okay! :)) Was it Ellwood & Briggs you took him to in the end? If it was they certainly seem to be very good at cavy stuff, which is very useful to know :)

By the way, credit should go to AllAboutTheAnimals as it was her that recommended them :)

Great news! Did they say what it was?

Poppy'sMum- I've had lengthy discussions with the vet, a rodentologist and people on this forum and decided doing it under GA was best for him. The stress without it may well kill him. My vet used to do it without at her last practise and thinks she does a better job under GA and it's less stressful for him but I'm very aware of the risks but it has to be done as his teeth are growing at an angle. I swopped to seeing a different vet as a vet who I first saw about his teeth in April said I should just leave him be and that I'd be luckily if he lived another 2 months.

Oh that's a shame, hopefully they can give him a light whiff of some gas rather than a full on GA? :)

{:| what a horrible vet! i don't understand it, if you don't care about ALL animals and want to do everything you can to help, don't become a vet! x

Poppy's mum- yes he just has a bit and she does some work then brings him round a bit, repeats until it's done. He had it done when he was just under 6 then in April but will need it doing again soon.

jinnywig- I don't think she meant it nastily, I think she thought he'd die of natural causes first as he's 7, but I didn't like her attitude so I asked to see someone else in the practise and now have a vet I'm happy with. Leaving him to starve to death and wither away wasn't an option to me. He might be old and have a runny nose (from the teeth problems) and is now developing cataracts but otherwise he's quite lively and still loves to run around the house every evening, eat his food and have cuddles. Every day I have him is a blessing.

good on you x>> at the end of the day vets should understand that a pet is your baby, not 'just a guinea pig' x

Sounds like you been through the woods with this piggy! Time will tell though, the healing process has to start.. keep the wound clean, and plenty of bribery to keep him munching (his all time fav greens, plus try other new veg and see if he likes variety) :a19: I so want to do that, he's adorable :)

I've thought about taking mine to Elwood and Briggs but they told my mum no one was specialised with rodents, or guinea-pigs in particular? :{

If they're decent enough with pigs then I will check them out again, and it's not that far from me either (I'm in a village next to Holbeach, hello neighbour! :p) so wouldn't be too much of a travel!

Hope your little one is getting on ok! That eye of his did look awful and sore :( bless his furry little socks!

I'm sorry about the insanely late reply...I just thought I'd let you guys know that Koyo passed away on the 11th october...he grew terribly thin no matter how much he ate, even though I syringe fed him as well...he hung in there, bless his little heart. I love him so much...I want to thank you all for your support with Koyo as well, you're all brilliant. RIP little guy...

I miss him so much...his presence was as natural as breathing, still can't believe he's gone.

NOOO! Oh my god how sad I am so very sorry to read this :0

((HUGS)) Cant believe I am reading this :(:(

RIP Koyo, run free little one x>>
