Hi

First post to gpforum!
Had pigs through my child hood and early twenties had no uti problems. Got my two babies a month ago. kreacher (ul get the name if your a harry potter fan lol) was passing blood two days ago and in pain, pet has prescribed pain killers and antibiotics. He's on the mend.

So now iv noticed calcium deposits ( just powder not sludge or stones) in their hutch. So looking at low calcium diet. Have found a few of the things I was giving them are high in calcium but can't seen to find anything clear about spring greens? Are they high in calcium or safe to give on a daily basis?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. They are ok in small amounts. I follow a diet that was put together by someone who did a lot of research into diets for pigs with bladder issues (mainly interstitial cystitis) and they found that spring greens were ok but only a small piece (a slither) twice a day. The other recommended veg to feed were the following (twice a day):

1 piece of cucumber
1 piece of celery
1 spring of coriander
1 green bean
1 piece of pepper

This meant that the diet was balanced properly with the correct ratios etc. I believe the diet has since been adjusted slightly but I am not really in touch with them anymore. I think spring greens are still included though and it is the celery that has been removed.
