So last night i managed to catch Stan and checked him over, i found 3 lumps on his belly one is about a grape size 8... then as he has constant problems with his grease gland i was checking it out to see how bad it had got and found this kind of white stuff coming out of his bum, it absolutely stinks it made me retch it was so bad. I tried to get his willy out to check it but it kind of got stuck half way and i didnt want to hurt him so i thought its best to leave it to the experts or sexperts as may be the case!

So, we are off to the vets at 5pm i hope it is someone who knows what they are doing as i lost confidence a little when i went with Oscar when he was losing weight. :...

Poor Stan, he is a mess, i feel so bad :(

For anyone that is interested, Oscar has stabilised a little with his weight, it is lower that it used to be but fluctuates between 1120 and 1180 and i am continuing to weigh him every other day for now.

The white stuff sounds like boar glue - dried semen. It needs to be removed regularly, but carefully.

Best of luck with the lumps; hopefully they are just harmless fatty lumps!

Poor you and Stan, Hope all goes well at the vets. Lots of love and fingers crossed for him x

Hope the lumps are benign. As for any white smelly stuff coming from either of a boar's privates, if my experience with my boys is anything to go by, it is just boy stuff!

Gosh I can understand why you are worried. I hope everything goes okay. Shereen had a lump and it was just fat so I hope the same for Stan.

Poor Stan :( Freya has abdominal lumps that the vet didn't seem worried about, but they've grown quite a bit so I think another trip is in order. Hopefully it's just fatty lumps and nothing to worry about.

The white smelly stuff (& my god does it honk) is a natural secretion from the glands in the perineal sac.

The lumps, are hopefully, benign fatty lumps.

If his penis was covered in white stuff, that will be smegma, again a natural secretion to lubricate & found in all mammals.

Good luck to Stan, hope he's ok! Lumps are always worrying when you find them :( keeping my fingers crossed for him, let us know how you get on!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.

Well, she had a right good feel round and said that all the lumps are where his mammories are and said it was unusual in boys.

She thinks that because he is prone to grease problems it could be that he has just got a big build up of 'stuff' and that baytril may help to reduce it so we have 0.3mls twice a day for a week and i go back on Tuesday.

If the lumps have reduced we will continue, if not we will discuss operating on them, she did say that because they are on both sides it will be quite harsh as they will have to remove quite a bit of tissue.

His back end is so greasy, i said i was concerned about bathing him too much but she said to do it as often as i need to keep the grease under control.

So we are back home, he has had his first dose of baytril and i have mixed up to Avipro and he is currently munching away on his tea like nothing ever happened! He also weighs 1.3 which is good if he does need to have an op i guess.

Thoughts?

Poor little Stan.

One of my regular boarders had a problem with an over active grease gland. Poor Oli always used to be exceptionally greasy and even when he was bathed it was only a few days before the muck used to start building up again. His vet tried antibiotics but in the end they decided to actually remove his grease gland and he has been a different piggy ever since.

As far as lumps are concerned my vet tends to leave well alone if they are not obviously sinister or causing any problems. I hope the meds help and that Stan is soon feeling better.

Thank you, oh thats interesting re the grease gland removal, his back end is such a mess and he doesnt help as he lays in his wee all the time, so his lovely white fur is yellow and brown!!

I feel so sorry for him, but to be honest he seems happy enough and he didnt seem bothered by the lumps when she was squeezing them etc

Thank goodness it is nothing serious. I had no idea guinea pigs could have the grease gland removed.

Sorry to hear about Stan,s problems.are you sure that the smelly stuff is not coming from an abccess? Probably not but it really does smell. I can always tell if I have a piggie with an abccess as soon as I walk into the piggie room! Everyone one feels guilty if a problem is not spotted quickly (remember Maxine,s eye),but as they say piggies are good at hiding things and I am sure they get the best of care at your place so dont worry yourself, these things happen.

oh thanks Christine and yes i will never forget Maxines eye, poor baby, I'm not sure re an abcess, i would have hoped a vet would have realised if there was one there. There is actually lots of lumps, large and small, god only knows what is going on lol

Aww poor Stan :(' I have no advise regarding the grease glands as I've never had boars. I shall keep my fingers crossed that the lumps shrink but if he does need the surgery, please try not to worry.

Ellie recovered very well from the surgery. She was up and about within half an hour and recovered well afterwards. Stan is also a good weight, he's much heavier than Ellie.

ha ha Claire hes absolutely huuuuuuge he makes Oscar look tiny though.

And i do feel positive but really i guess no one will know for sure unless they open him up to check.

My poor baby...

I'm glad it's nothing too bad with his willy :red hun. Hopefully the lumps aren't anything and he won't need surgery x
