He'll enjoy that! Fingers crossed no op is needed.

Massive, bright and Noisy :)) :))

Sending Stan lots of lucky vibes and hope surgery is not necessary x>>
One of my older girls has a lump on her spine which is soft and I can move it around - the vet said it was just a cyst and to leave alone unless it gets bigger.
I'm constantly checking (much to her annoyance) but know anything we find is a worry :...
Hugs x

Last Tuesday we went back to the vets as the lumps had not reduced and they took a biopsy of three of the lumps for sending to the lab, i am waiting for the vet to ring hopefully today with the results eeeeek nervous :...

Good luck! Hopefully it will be nothing to worry about. A tense wait until you find out the results though :{

Glad you will get some results today. Fingers crossed here. Come on massive Stan.

ok, i had the call! Inconclusive!

They could see some blood & some fat cells but but not enough cells to rule out cancer etc.

What to do now...hmmm. I'm thinking i might try to contact the exotics vet who did the talk on Saturday see if she can offer any advice.

Do you mean the one with the youtube demo video hon?

Sorry to hear you dont have any news really on the situ. Hugs to you and stan xx

yeah, thats the one i just found ta.

I'm not really sure to be honest. She said i could have them operated on as its not normal for pigs to get fatty lumps, but that surprised me really as there are loads of threads on here about them so I'm not sure.

I'm going to have a root round his bum and make sure his willy is clean and make sure its nothing to do with that then...

We did meet an exotics vet at the potteries on Saturday so i may contact her for advice.

i dont know what I'm going to say to him when i get home, hes expecting an diagnosis for his £80 biopsy lol

I've always been under the impression that fatty lumps are quite often found in piggies so I'm intrigued :{
It would definitely be worth a second opinion hun xx

me too! Ive emailed Hannah from the potteries on Saturday to ask for her opinion.

i think if i was to have my boy seen to i would prefer it to be by someone who knows exactly what they are doing, ie exotics not general vet, that sounds horrible but its a big area and i really dont want him cut open all over his belly and it be fatty lumps!

She may give me a few ideas, ill keep you posted x

Sorry to hear you still don't know what it is. Hoping you can get some more definitive answers. Lots of cuddles to Stan x

Don't always be taken in with the 'exotics' title. Simon Maddock is probably the most experienced guinea pig vet around, yet he is a general vet not an exotic vet. Exotics covers a huge amount of species, so please don't think it means they are good with guinea pigs if they have this title.

hi debbie, i totally get what you mean, its just i met this lady on Saturday and she seemed to know what she was talking about with the piggies, mine dont.

Its just because i had a quick chat with her and she knows a little about the situation. i dont want to offend anyone at all, my vets are very general and say they dont specialise in pigwigs.

ps i know simon has a good rep

Hey, fatty lumps are very common in piggies according to glen, my specialist piggies vet. Did the vet mention anything about the nucleus of the cells. When an aspirate is taken it can be inconclusive. Theo had an inconclusive result and the pathologist said the only way to know for sure is a biopsy. Hindsight is a wonderful thing because he was to ill to have a biopsy by the time we had the result. If stan i
s fit,well and not loosing weight I would think it was a fatty lump. I know lots of piggies with them.

yes i do too so i couldnt understand it really.

They just did fine needle thing, which i presume is an aspirate? She didnt mention the nucleus and i dont know what it means lol.

She did mention taking a bigger piece and said to go away and think about it, which is where i am at :{

Oh gosh, Karina you're really going through it. Sending both your boys healing vibes!

Hi, I took my piggies to an exotics vet with teeth problems and didn't get anywhere. I just don't think they had the experience. Sniffy is now being looked after by Debbie and Simon and is really doing well. Simon does know a lot about guineapigs and it would be well worth getting his advice even if it's just a phone call. I hope your poor piggy gets better soon. x

Thanks guys, i just dont know what to do now, today while bathing Stan i found his willy totally gunked up so i have bathed it with warm water and put some sudocrem on, will repeat this a few times over the next week and hopefully it will right itself.

Oscar i have found today has scabs all round his mouth, I'm gutted, I'm being punished for something!

I would be happy as Larry if i could get my boys to Simon/Debbie but its working it out and what not.

Its odd the willy thing has happeneded alongside the lumps.
Yeah an aspirate is a fine needle thing.
In cancerous cells what happens is the cells grow and divide at an abnormal rate hence make big lumps of tumours. What happens in maligant cancers (the ones that kill) is the cells that grow and divide grow blood vessels to feed the tumour by growing out to the nearest blood stream required for continued growth. Which means eventually the cancer grows and spreads and once its in the entire blood stream cancers can occur anywhere and as its in the bloodstream everywhere death is immenant. However in benign tumour the tumour cells dont divide into a malignant cell and therefore cant have this continued destructing growth and are self contained and dont need a greater and greater blood supply like malignant cells.
Under the microscope suspicious cells are those that are fast growing. Every cell has something called a nucleus which contains the cells make-up if you like. When the nucleus divide in half the cell spilts and you get two cells. the difference with cancer is these cells are slightly abnormal and grow quickly which can be seen under microscope often incidacted by cells with two nuclei.
I did cancer a long time ago in a pharmacology, this is just a rough guide and may not be 100% accurate but its how I remember it ha!

I think its odd to re the lumps and the gunky stuff.

Wow to all that re the cells, how interesting is that!
