Hi all. I wanted to post my experience here to maybe help someone who is going through what I went through of not knowing what was best to do after finding ovarian cysts on my little girl Pickles. I first ntoticed the crusty nipples and they were slightly enlarged. Never having owned Guinea Pigs I didn't have a clue as to what it could be. Like any nervous Mom I posted here and the many people were spot on. They said to get her to the vets right away and have her checked for ovarian cysts. We did and found the cysts. Still I was worried because the Vet scared me. She told me my Pickles would likely not make it through the surgery, which I didn't accept because she was seemingly healthy. I went to another Vet for a second opinion and that Vet said just leave it. (I had the feeling this second Vet didn't put a lot of value on Guinea Pigs.) Then once again I came here for advice and was given the name of a wonderful Vet who not only saw me the same day but talked me through the operation so I felt safe and informed. She was so kind and caring that I immediately knew it was going to be OK. That and all the reassurance from this site. She checked Pickles over and said she was a good candidate for surgery and that Wednesday Pickles was operated on. Everything went well and that morning Pickles was eating carrots at the Vets. It was so amazing. Anyone in the Poole area please go to Vets4Pets in Poole Holes Bay. The vet that operated on my baby was Rachel Tucker and she is a STAR. Amazing woman who couldn't be more knowledgable. Huge thank you to her and to Jacky from this site for reccomending Dr Rachel Tucker. I could not be happier and Pickles is happy too.
