Sweet, Sweet Ruby.

A friend came to visit the other day, and was fascinated by the guinea pigs.
She fell instantly in love with Ruby, and wanted to hold her.
We said she could hold Lucy or Eddi, but not Ruby.
We explained that Ruby is a bit 'special' and only likes DD1 to touch and handle her, and as far as possible we choose to respect Ruby's preferences.
She accepted this (well technically she didn't have a choice) but I think she thought we were a bit crazy implying that something as small and simple as a guinea pig could be so complicated.
Basically I think she thought we were making the whole thing up.
So later that evening I took this short video for her, just to show that even guinea pigs can be deep (or dysfunctional, depending on how you look at it!).

 
Ahhhh that's brilliant! Never realised pigs were so particular. Good for you for explaining her behaviour! Oh and she's lovely.

Not all pigs are.
Our Lucy is about as laid back as they come, and will happily cuddle with anyone.
Eddi is also pretty easy going, and although he loves DD2 (the one with blue hair) the best, he will also cuddle with other people.
Ruby is extremely particular and really doesn't let anyone else handle her, but for DD1 she is a total angel.
And Oreo is great, but not a fan of cuddles with anyone.

So I think every pig is different, it's just that Ruby has strong opinions and doesn't mind sharing them!
 
Awww Ruby. A pig that knows her own mind! Such a character and soooooo beautiful too :drool:
 
Awww Ruby you are such a picky little minx but everyone loves you. Even those you won't let touch you!
 
I love how she just takes control of the situation. " No. That's not my human. This is Not what I want. I'm out". Whatta girl :lol!:
 
Ruby is very similar to Toast, she doesn't like anyone but me going near her or holding her. How beautiful, you can see what a bond they have with each other :love:
 
To be totally honest these are not the first guinea pigs I have owned as an adult, but this is the first time I have owned guinea pigs who are handled by multiple people.
Their strong preferences (or lack there of) and ability to make clear choices still astonish me.
People are constantly amazed when I tell them how much personality and character piggies have.
Not a day passes when i am not thankful that I chose to have guinea pigs again.
Well maybe the days when I try to handle Ruby and receive a sharp nip for my efforts, and am then told off by DD1 for traumatizing her sweet little princess piggie, but mostly I am thankful.
 
My 7 are a strange lot. The baby Lucky loves her hoomun daddy the best, but wriggles on her mummy. Snowy will snooze on anyone, including lots of licking and yawning. Smudge and poppy cuddle with anyone, whilst Sweetie prefers her mummy. Fudge hates cuddles and cutie loves everyone.

Given a choice most of them love to crawl from their daddy to their mummy
 
Comet will happily let anyone hold him as long as he can snooze on them. Blitzen, on the other hand, has been handled by someone else precisely once, lol. I wouldn't trust him not to bite anyone else.

I wouldn't try him not to bite me either, but hey, at least I know what I'm in for! He is my favourite example of piggy personalities, he's so different from Comet and I doubt it's ever really going to change. People who say guinea pigs don't have personality have zero idea, and I pity them for it, they've got no idea what they're missing.
 
Oh bless her! :luv: our Zeb (rip :() was like this with me. He'd follow me around on the lawn, let me pick him up, feed from my hand even. Anyone else though, nope! :))
 
This is too sweet! The only one of mine that has a preference is Fudge. She rumbles when anyone touches her if in holding her.. I had a video on my old phone where fudge was on the sofa and me and my partner at the time sat in front of her with lips puckered for a kiss.. everytime my partner would go to kiss her, fudge would turn and kiss me haha
 
there is nothing dysfunctional in this amazing video and what fascinates me is that Ruby keeps her calm: no screaming, no bites... She just come back to her favourite arms! :luv:
