I was just looking at advertising my unwanted new 2 tier cage in the pet related local online adverts... and there are a pair of lady piggies listed on there looking all adorable and not from a breeder just in need of a new home... would that be really irresponsible and impulsive? Maybe I could just send a harmless email enquiry...

Does everyone else on the forum get tempted like this all the time?

Constantly looking at adoption and expansion opportunities fortunately wifey has not got the guinea pig bug...yet and common sense currently prevails! She did join in the stroking of Rosie’s nose last night so maybe she will be struck by piggie love!

This is why I have 12 XD i'm so rubbish at walking away from a piggy. The way I see it, as long as the new pigs wont detract from the quality of life the current ones have, why not!

I might have emailed the chap asking if Piggle could go see them for a date... I think she might be left out a bit when Puggle and Theo couple up properly!

Aw the guy replied saying he would be happy for a piggy date and saying he only wants his piggies to go somewhere he gets a good feeling about...
Guess I'd best start figuring out how I could make that new C&C cage and stand and loft and lid I ordered turn into a 5x3 or 5x4 that goes round the corner :)

This is why I've got 6! At least with girls and 1 boar you can have a herd if they all get on and 2 herds if they don't :)). 6 boys aren't so adaptable!
Good luck, I watch this space with interest. Looking forward to seeing pigtures of your new girlies.

Just watch out. Piggies can be addictive. Start with 2 in a cage. End up with a room or floor dedicated to them and bigger and more creative enclosures, then more piggies to fill the enclosures..... before you know it they will be taking over the house, the fridge, your salary and all your spare time.... oh well. There are worse additions to be sure.

It seems really impulsive but if there are 2 lovely lady piggies needing a new home just 10 minutes drive away from my house... and I'm creating a new herd dynamic anyway soon by introducing Theo to my girls... and if I just ordered new big adaptable housing... and if that fails I still have 4 spare cages...
Lets see what happens at piggy date night tomorrow!

Haha, that is how it starts! As Vicki said, you start small and then end up with loads! I have 13 of my own now, filling one room and encroaching onto another. I see it this way, if you can afford to care for them financially and time wise and provide all they need generally and when ill then there is no problem.

Yes we can definitely afford them, and almost certainly provide a bigger cage than they have now out of our spare ones, or get them a new cage, and give them more time than the current owner who loves them but says he just doesnt have time to spend with them. And we just might manage to create a 5 piggy herd... and Theo has so much boarly love to share it seems a shame to deny him the opportunity to meet more ladies (one of them floofy which will make boar glue tricky :) ).

Piggy girl date confirmed for 7.30pm tomorrow :) I hope if the owner has just had the 2 piggy sisters for 2 years we dont need to worry too much about quarantine but I'll check their fur thoroughly and arrange a vet check for next week (Piggle and Puggle need to go get their nails trimmed anyway, their back feet look a bit like eagle talons all of a sudden!).
I plan to let them live as neighbours for a week then try introduce the ladies first (is it the bossiest ladies first?) in the playpen then add Theo in an extra playpen side room? Might that work? Can girls meet at playtime then go back to their own next door cage for a couple of weeks?
I'm getting ahead of myself though, this careful owner chap might take one look at cross-eyed mental Lady Piggle (we love her very much but she's very interesting!) and keep his posh girl piggies well out of the way...

It was my partner who wanted me to have the extra 2, when I pointed out we didn't have room for another cage he said we would find a way! That's why I have 3 cages stacked up in the living room.

I totally understand. I reached my limit at 5 but two different people asked me to take in their bereved sows so I now have 7! 6 sows and a boar. Most of them fluffy.

Hmmm... need to inform husband first but he loves piggies and he usually goes along with whatever keeps me happy/stops me nagging/lets him lead a peaceful existence :)

This sums up the happiness in our marriage lol.......and many more decades to come :-).

I have to stop watching craigslist (the only advert here for gp's). I did contact a young girl needing to rehome 3 bonded girls fast. I was just concerned as she seemed to not care much whom they went to but wanted them to stay together. I never heard back after email but Craigslist here can be spotty.

Congrats on the new ones coming in! Will check back to keep up as well.

I have 8 adorable piggies for a reason, but when you fall for a piggie you fall hard. I wouldn't get rid of any of mine and they are very happy (I hope!)

Oh my goodness... we came home tonight with 2 new lovely piggies (free of charge! The owner only advertised them for a price to deter weirdos. A lovely chap and he didnt really want to let them go and we agreed to stay in touch...) but... these piggies are... chubby? I put them on the scales as soon as they arrived and they are 1290g and 1180g girls? Bums too big to fit in a carrot house? Luckily I ordered a rabbit size carrot house by accident so they can have that! But they are... seriously chubby. Cant feel a rib on either of them. Clearly very well loved, but 2 and a half kilos of piggy were living in an 80x50cm cage...
Think we'll be skipping the pellets for a month?! And taking a trip to the vet... and running laps in the playpen...

Congratulations. Look forward to seeing photos of your chunky new residents. I have 3 sows who are well over a kilo. Two are around 1250g and one at 1400g. Neither of the 1250g ones are overweight but the 1400g sow is admittedly a pudding.

These are puddings who waddle and their tummies drag on the floor and looks like they cant reach their own bums to clean them :( I will post pigtures later!

Oh dear. Puddings like my Poppy. Good luck chasing them round the pen. Poppy just looks at me with a “whatever” look :lol!:

Here's floofy Jezebel pudding (previously called Jess) and her sister smooth coated Clover pudding (previously called Chloe).
I'm all in favour of a fuller figured lady but a yellow wee stained undercarriage that drags on the floor (even in the smooth coated one) probably needs a bit of a diet...
