Just ran upstairs and gave her some water in a shallow dish and she drank it herself, then i gave her some grass and dandelions and she's nibbling on them too....that's got to be a good sign right? She also ran upto me without falling over! She looked so down this morning but the vets have given her a injection of something and she seems to have perked up!

I don't want to upset you, but I don't want you to get your hopes up. Chip has probably had the same or a similar injection to what my rabbit had and even though my rabbit perked up, my rabbit was no longer with me six days later. However, your vet is treating Chip, my vet basically refused to treat my rabbit. I am hopeful it is not her time to go. Keep us updated. :)

WOW she is beautiful :smitten: come on Chip get well for mummy. Still thinking of you both

Chip is beautiful x x x i can see why u want her to pull through x x x

awww she's gorgeous - sending lots of love for her to get better soon x

You need to treat chip and any rabbits she has come into contact with with a 28 day dose of panacur. EC is very common in rabbits and it is now recommended that you dose them with panacur at least twice a year to prevent any problems. I have treated a few rabbits with EC related problems and there was only 1 that I couldnt save, she did however had a comprimised imune system to start with and went straght to fitting, skipping any other stage(it took 3 doses of diazapam to calm her down but she was pts a few days later as she was no better). If she is still eating and drinking and moving about ok then she has a very good chance of survival as long as she is put on the correct medication straight away. Hopefully your vet gave her a Dexafort injection which is an anti-inflamatory, it is also a good idea to put her on a course of Engemycin and then of course the panacur. This was recommended to me by a top bunny vet at an RWA conference a few years ago and has been a successful course of treatment. EC is only infectious when it is in the kidneys, by the time you notice symptoms when it gets to the brain it will most likely have infected other rabbits which is why you need to treat them all.

oh Jeanette just seen this posting all about poor Chip, what a hard chocie you was given but agree you must try everything even if it turns out it didn't do any good at least you can comfort yourself you tried everything, I really know nothing about buns , I gave them up after I lost one to myxy and one to flystrike years ago, I have already told you how stunning your buns are and chip is one very stunning bunny, I am keeping everything crossed all will be well, :-* for chip

I picked up the new Panacur Rabbit Wormer today from the vets. I am to give this to her for 9 days and then make another apt. for her to see the vets!

She is looking great today, i could hardly keep up with her dashing around the room when i needed to give her the wormer. She is certainly happy within herself and learnt how to run with a head tilt :)

Thank you everyone for your PM's, they have helped greatly O0

Please make sure you give her the full 28 days. The 9 days recommended on the packet is only for a preventative measure, not if they have an active infection.

Yes i will make sure she gets the whole treatment....sorry i just meant they want me to give it her for 9 days and see her after that to make sure she's still happy and not in any pain. I think they want to give her another injection and after that carry on with what we are doing. If however they don't give me anymore Panacur i know where to get it from O0

I have decided to get a blood test done on Chip! It's pretty expensive and I'll need to ask my parents to help me out but i need to know it's defiantly EC. She seems to have improved since yesterday and looks better all the time. I'm not sure whether she has just learnt to hide the symptoms or if she is showing signs of actual improvement.

A while ago i found a substantial amount of 'fur mites'...... I'm not quite sure what they were, they are red-ish, very small and clung all over the fur not just at the base of the skin, mainly around her neck and dewlap (tuft of fur around the neck of a doe) anyone know what they could be? I have given her some spot on treatment to sort it out though!

By the sounds of it Chip has got EC, however, a blood test would be good to confirm this. I have heard of the mites you are explaining but I can't think what they are called. :-\ :)

I've just seen this Jeanette. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. What a terrible time you're having. I'm keeping you and your lovely bunnies in my thoughts. I really hope things work out ok. Chip is a darling.
x

I got Chip out in the garden today to get a bit of sun on her bones...she loved it :smitten: She ran around today and she could hold her head in a upright position, her head only tilted when she was relaxed and lying down, but when running she looked great. I am desperately hoping this means is trying to fight the disease and is being a strong girl...fingers crossed she continues like this!

Fingers crossed she sounds like she is getting better daily! ;) ;)

Yeah Chip :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Good luck love, you're doing great O0
Awwwww that's lovely that she enjoyed playing outside, one step forward is a big plus :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
