I health check all my piggies & all the rescue piggies every week. They get weighed, nails clipped, groomed & hair trimmed if necessary. I also check for anything that shouldn't be there or wasn't there last week.
When I checked Fern yesterday morning. I immediately noticed a hard swelling round her pubic area. I knew this needed attention but she was OK in herself, eating etc & not crying in pain.
I made an appointment to see our vet & took her in at 12.45. It was found that she had a stone & when examined she bled & was in a lot of discomfort so Dominika took her to be treated under anaesthetic. 30 minutes later she was back with me a little groggy but minus a large stone & a small one which had probably broken away from the large one when being manipulated. She's been back home now for 6 hours & appears none the worse for wear. I'm only glad that I do check them all weekly because this could have gone unnoticed until if was causing her pain. Here's 2 pictures, one of Fern with the stones & also with 5p coin to give you an idea of the size xx
