The Pigglingtons

Thank you, she's been on Co-trimoxazole? (Sulfatrim I think), then Baytril, metacam, Bisolvon decongestant & I've added a humidifier to their room, her rattley breathing & snotty/runny nose seems clear for a week or so, then comes back with a vengeance :(
She had a nasal swab done about a month or more ago and had picked up two different infections, 1x was resistant to the co-trimoxazole, the other was cleared by it. Hence going on the Baytril afterwards.

:luv: I'm glad Duck seems brighter :D
C'mon Duck - keep it up! The metacam is excellent as an anti inflammatory isn't it :)
Hopefully the Baytril will kick in & fight off the infection ASAP
Tiggy says although all of your boys are gorgeous, Duck is her pin-up hunk 🐹♥️
Take care of yourself too. Love to all Xx

After all I said, I was holding out so well. @alpacasqueak
These two are 5ish months old and needed a home. I got tip off about them and couldn't resist a look. They were living in a 120 x 60cm cage and bickering. The peruvian/peruvian cross? has a couple of nip scabs on his back, they are just very tiny. He is also very underweight, just skin and bone under all that fluff. They are settling in well now they have a bigger cage, we have managed to shoehorn in a 4 x 2 C&C (know it should be 5 x 2 but it's the best I can do at the moment) having dismantled a shelving arrangement in the alcove. Fingers crossed I can keep them happy together.

Meet Freddie and Timmy.

It's my partners fault he persuaded me (didn't need much persuading to be honest). I'm still counting 6 of everything when I prepare veg. He said I would always wonder what happened to them if I didn't take them. Timmy (long haired) reminds me of a boar I had about 20 years ago. He will get a hair cut once he's settled in a bit more. He's called Timmy after the old Timotei advert, he flicks his hair back over his head and out of his eyes, it's so funny. Freddie is completely black on one side and has that stripe and some mottled beige hairs coming through on the other.
Completely gorgeous. Love the name, Timotei ❤️

Duck reacted to the Baytril and ended up with cow pat poop so he only had 6 days worth with fingers crossed if he had an infection it would be enough, vets don't usually give ABs for less than 14 days. He had another vet visit today and the vet was amazed to see how much brighter he is and that there was no sign of the heavy breathing or an infection. We both think the breathing was in reaction to severe pain as it stopped almost immediately after a dose of Metacam. We are both thinking bladder, possibly a stone moving/passing as he is very tender in the bladder area. He does have a very low grade heart murmur but not something that needs treatment. He has lost 300gms overall although he is now going in the right direction. He drank from the bottle this morning, the first time for 2 weeks. He is showing a slight interest in hay now and is selectively eating veg. He is still being syringe fed and we have put Cystease into the mix of meds he is having. I am hoping to be able to drop a feed in the next day or two as he starts to eat more for himself. He's not out of the woods but all in all a much more positive day today.

Ah lovely Duck ❤️good to hear he making great progress ….little piggy steps Duck 🥰 you can do this

Duck's taken a massive step backwards overnight. We are almost back to square one, it's obviously pneumonia now the other symptoms have gone. Getting up and down to his cage multiple times a day for feeding and meds has damaged my knee and I'm not going to be able to do it this time. I've put the old 120 cm cage base up on a table with C&C grid sides so it's open at the top for easy access. I'd rather have kept him in his own familiar cage while he feels so awful but its not helpful if I can't walk.
Please end our lovely boy bucket loads of healing vibes.

Oh lovely Duck…..what’s happened
Come on we’re all willing you to get better ❤️
Look after your Slave …she’s dong the very best for you ❤️

Cmon Duck! We're all sending love, best wishes & a truckload of healing vibes for a full & speedy recovery :luv:
Hope your knee is soon better too.

Sending healing vibes to Duck. I hope he perks up again soon.❤️

I hope your knee feels better now you don’t have to keep getting up and down. ❤️

It's really surprised me how many times I get up and down to the floor. I've not noticed until it hurt! Hopefully the knee will get better now Duck's on the table and I've got his meds, the nebuliser the spare cage etc etc out ready to use. Most of our storage it seems is down low!

On Thursday Duck was really struggling, he was facing the corner and fighting for every breath. I decided it was time to let him go and tried to phone the vets for an emergency appointment, the vets phones were down. I kept trying them, then I tried my other vets who were permanently engaged. I then tried a vets a bit further away, no answer! I kept phoning them all, getting nowhere and getting more upset for Duck . My partner came home and offered to go to the vets and see what was going on, it was late, he'd just done a very long bike ride and was very tired. I'd already given Duck some Metacam by this time (was not an overdose just his next dose a little early), his breathing was a bit quieter and he looked more peaceful so we decided to leave him. I warned my partner he was probably going to make his own way over the bridge during the evening/night. My partner said it's a reprieve maybe someone is trying to tell us it's not time.
Friday morning Duck came running across the cage for breakfast when I came downstairs, he ate a slice of cucumber but ignored the pellets as he has done for sometime. He had his meds and was happy to have a syringe feed. I got a vet appointment for the afternoon to discuss the situation as he seems to have progressed so far with Baytril and then gone backwards. The vet says Duck is a puzzle to her, the sticky eyes he had had and the heavy breathing says respiratory but the lung sounds don't. He has a slight heart murmur but there are no liquid sounds in the chest. He doesn't have the complete set of symptoms for anything obvious. It's all could be and maybe. We now have Doxycycline to try along with the Baytril and nebulising.
I had a chat with the receptionist about the day before, she said their phone's and computers had all gone down. It was probably why the other vets were so busy, everyone was ringing them instead. The receptionist said if anything like that ever happened again when we had a really sick animal to just turn up at the vets and they would help us as best they could.
This morning he has had syringe feed and has eaten a little grass and veg. His breathing is heavy but not like Thursday, his eyes are clear, there is still some hope in my heart that the ABs will work.
Please send Duck healing vibes, this is probably his last chance as the vet feels there is nothing more we can do.
