I've been involved in a few piggy trains & sometimes it's been difficult to arrange so have on several occasions had to do the full journey myself because if a piggy needs urgent medical attention & no help is available then I couldn't just sit back.

Because of this I've set up a facebook group called "The Piggy Train".

If anyone can offer to help with part of a journey then please ask to join the group & also pm me with the area you can cover. If this works out, we'll have a national network of volunteers to quickly get a pioggy train up & running to either help with rescues, re-homing or transporting piggies who need specialist veterinary treatment there & back.

On the subject of piggy trains is there anybody out there who can help with getting a poorly piggy & his 2 female companions to TEAS at Northampton from Leicester at 8pm ish on Tuesday, June 24th?

Hi mate, I'm pretty rubbish mid week to be honest, weekends are so much better. However, we sometimes have work engineers driving around the country, I'll have alook, if we have any moving around that area I'll ask them to do me a run. Can't promise but I'll check the schedule. Great idea on the FB, just remember to stick it on here as well as I don't do FB.

Cheers
Lil

I've had requests for piggy train from Scotland recently but from south of you in Ayrshire. It would be great it we don't need a piggy train but it's good to know we now have someone in your area. Most trains tend to be going south to Northampton but they can begin anywhere in the country.

We now have 2 from Glasgow now & lots more from all round the country. It will be great if we can get a full network of volunteers.

I am a very un-confident driver so can't volunteer myself but if I join the page I could share the posts would that help?

Another one not on face book but I did join the piggy bank quite a while back.

I can't do that one but for advanced planning I am doing Durham to Stevenage on 23rd July and returning on 25th if anything comes up on those days.

If you are in need of piggy cuddles while in the area, I am about 10 minutes down the road from Stevenage.

Just let me know, am home most evenings from about 6.30.

The only way I could have is if you were around when I left Stevenage on the Friday but that will be around lunchtime. Just not down there long enough to be able to vanish for a while. Such a shame as it would have been great to meet someone else from here. Will remember this for next time I arrange to come down x

Ah damn my work. Just let me know when you are next down. I could always book a day off.

Hi @Stewybus, I've sent a join request but can't do private message on fb anymore. I'm available to do journeys around the Scottish central belt and maybe into the north of England or a wee bit further north in Scotland, basically anywhere within 2-3 hours of Glasgow. Probably only for the summer as uni will be full on as of October.

Either being a co-coordinator keeping a track on how a run is going or admin or as you say just sharing the piggy train requests. Any help is welcome Helen

I'll maybe have to open a website but that will be further down the line. If you pm me your details & the area you can cover I can put you on the volunteer register & contact you via here.

There is a possibility that there may be a piggy to bring back north around the July 25th so I'll keep you in mind for that run Abi.

You're at least the 3rd volunteer from Scotland Nicola so we're getting a little network up there already.

Hey @Stewybus, I joined the fb group yesterday (thank you for accepting!) and am happy to do any journies within, say, 50 miles of Gloucester if needed :)

A successful start to The Piggy Train f/b group. We've got our first Piggy Train all full for tomorrow night. I'll keep you posted as to how it went.

I think one of the problems (from a post on F/B) re The Piggy Bank is that to be a member of the piggy bank requires such a high requirement that many of us dont or cant reach. I considered joining but with the best will in the world I couldn't sign up and say I agree 100% with the requirements.

I'm West Dunbartonshire - bout 15 miles west of Glasgow :) Happy to help when I can!

Edit to add - requested to join the FB group too :)

That's the reason why I started this new group Steve. I'm a Piggy Bank member & it is a good organisation but being private it doesn't have the membership to cover lots of Piggy Train legs. I've been involved in several trains over the last 6 months & I found that it was sometimes difficult just to get a train running North to South down the main routes such as A1, M1 & M6. I was getting more volunteers from the forum. Now I've started the Piggy Train group I've opened it to everyone but double checking they're bonafide piggy lovers before adding new members. After only 16 hours we got our first piggy train in place with a new member after drawing a blank on here & Piggy Bank. We're a non-piggy-politics group as our only aim is to help poorly piggies or piggies in need of re--homing regardless of there circumstances. You'be be a welcome addition to our membership Steve.

I know I said earlier about my trip to Stevenage but I should also have specifically said that I can help with other journeys too. Particularly any involving the a1! Would have to be on my days off and they change every week but please contact me if you need anyone in this area and I will see if I can help.

Thanks Abi, I'll put you down as A1?

Due to work commitments I'm unlikely to be of any use and I wont drive far due to petrol costs but if on a weekend if the OH is off to come with me but theres the potential I could help out even if it was only sexing and seperating pigs if something like rainbow ark were to happen within an hours drive from mine or similar :-)

Generally we'd leave the big rescues such as RA to Piggy Bank who already do an excellent job but would help to find volunteers to do transportation.
