The Wheaky Beans herd

I have a laundry airer full of damp washing in front of the window to try to absorb the solar energy pouring in. Blinds inside the window in my flat trap the heat and heat up the inside panel of the double glazing 🙁

Sadly you can only do so much but I hope your piggies are OK.

! Hopefully it works as it’s another scorcher ahead (I appreciate it’s not as bad as places down south but concerning for every piggy owner regardless).
It all depends on what you're used to, so 25°C is hot for you and your pigs. Some of "down south" is far hotter than where I am in Germany, but for me in an attic flat no less, it's really difficult. Only about 8°C hotter than you outside.

Looks silly but does the job at keeping the sun away from the glass!
It doesn’t look silly at all. Very practical & works a treat.

My house looks ridiculous. My window coverings are……flamingo fabric & bumble bee fabric on front windows.
Various odd fitted sheets at the back, a couple of tea towels & 2 old duvet covers one with tigers on & one with birds on.😂

Sounds fabulous, all nature themed! 🦩 🐝 🐅 🐦

Actually on the actual heat thread, it seems difficult temperatures down south are 'only' 32°C in the late afternoon, which is what it was here too. I was thinking 37°C in southern England, not sure why. Whatever, it's all difficult for those of us who aren't used to it. Where I live in Germany it always cooled down overnight up until a few years ago, in fact if you were sitting out in the evening here in summer 10-15 years ago and more, you'd need something long-sleeved. Not so where I lived 25-30 years ago in the Rhine Valley... The earth is heating up indeed.

Fortunately I have no piggies anymore to keep cool.

ETA: Temps inside that was.

I came back home at about 8:30 pm to 36°C in my top room (attic with a little staircase down, but no door separating it from rest of flat) and 29°C in one of the rooms in the main part of my flat. All windows open now! I'll see how much it will cool off before bedtime. Not much if the last days are anything to go by.

Despite the heat wave, Aperol’s favourite time of day is when he gets his morning nuggets. I’ve been getting up first thing, opening the window and French doors and letting the cool breeze work its magic.

Espresso’s wound is healing well thankfully. The good news is my vets offer a monthly plan which includes up to 12 vet consultations a year for £18/a month. Given a single consultation fee is now almost £70 🤯 it sounds like good value for money. I’m initially signing my elderly girl up (her arthritis needs routinely monitored) to see how we get on then might do the same for Aperol if needed. He is only two so hoping I can delay it for a bit!

Great idea, that is really good, it can make a huge difference to the cost of treatment 👍

The Wheaky Beans have been enjoying indoor salads as it’s been too wet and chilly to get them outside on the edible carpet. It’s warming up today so hoping to get these two rumbling love birds munching on the grass today!

Outdoor blind is drawn as it’s starting to heat up here again (24C - which for us is boiling!). Piggies were out earlier but didn’t seem keen so they’re now chilling in their shady room with curtains drawn. Aperol’s tummy seems a bit upset so need to be careful not to over feed the watery veg :( Luckily, pig dad will be at home when I go back to work tomorrow to keep a close eye on them as it’s forecast to get hotter over next couple of days.

We’ve certainly had plenty of rain in between heatwaves! I also mow the grass on a higher setting so it doesn’t get scalped and have let it grow recently as the bees love the clover.
I’m really looking forward to some rain here - our mower is also set to the highest setting as well (not that it’s helped in these temperatures). Everything’s very parched at the moment 😔

My husband has been banned from mowing the lawn because the bees are loving the clover.
I have to tread very carefully when hanging out laundry to avoid stepping on a bee

I’ve put a dish of water in the garden for the bees too.

We’re definitely kindred spirits, I do the exact same! 😍 Everything about my garden is done with wildlife in mind.

I’ll do my best rain dance for you! It’s been a very dry summer for the most part.

I’ve just noticed the fancy water bottle holder I bought them last year has cracked 😬 It’s made of 3D printed plastic so think it’s too brittle to tighten with screws. I’ve ordered a hook-on one to try out instead. Why is it difficult to find a decent water bottle holder?!

The other one is fine, think I over tightened the screws when securing it so the plastic just broke. I’ve ordered one from Etsy by CamSteCo so hopefully by hooking it on, the plastic doesn’t break this time.
Thank you, I might try one of theirs ❤️🙏

Was the one that cracked a Buttercup one?
