My little fluff-pig Thor is going in for his operation tomorrow so he can eventually live with my girlies, so I thought I'd start him his own thread to follow his journey

I've got a massive stack of towels to line a smaller cage for him for the first week - unfortunately he was a mountain goat in a previous life so anything climbable will have to go for a while to give him a chance to heal!

The vet I'm using is very highly recommended by Windwhistle Warren, who I live close to, and he was very pleased with Thor's health last week at the health-check. I'm still terrified though!

Exciting times Thor :yahoo: when I took Albie in for his op the vet phoned me at 10a.m to say he had all ready had he's op and had come around well. When I picked him up at 5p.m you wouldn't have known he had had a op. He was totally he's normal self. He still got lots of fuss and extra vegs when we got home. Try not to worry, I know easyer said than done x
 
Scary times but at the same time it will all be worth it! Fingers crossed for a smooth ride for this little cutie! I'll be following for updates :) Also hugs to you, brave piggy mum! :)
 
Best of luck! With an experienced piggy neutering vet, your chances of a smooth ride are very good indeed! ;)

Here are some links for back-up if things don't go quite to plan and recovery is slower than expected. I would also recommend to enquire when you pick up your boy as to how soon he can have painkillers etc. after his op (depends on what he's been given during his op), just in case. Ideally, he'll come back home picking straight up from where he left.

Thanks @Wiebke, I've been reading up! I've been told that he will be kept in until he's eating and I'll be offered a five-day reserve of metacam (optional, but I'll take it just in case).

He's had a friend in his cage all week (a giraffe called Gerald!) and the vet said I can bring him along so that Thor has some familiar smells for when he wakes up. I also need to take some of his favourite food so they can try tempting him to eat as soon as possible.
 
The hours are ticking away! I'm just sorting Thor's cage for him, he will be going into the pre-made jobby that I got for my girlies before the c&c grids arrived. I guess he'll be in there for at least the first week to try and keep his mad antics in check!

I'm thinking newspaper, puppy pads and towels, which will be changed twice a day to make sure it stays nice and clean. I've also got a fleecy/wooly lap pad so will put that in for him along with his pigloo - he seems to have stopped trying to jump on that recently! - and Gerald of course!

Thank you for all of your support everyone! I just rang them, apparently he's next or next-but-one on the list as they've had a rather busy day. Must have been other animals in the queue from last night or emergencies, as I was first in as soon as they opened the doors this morning. So, breathing easy for the time being instead of wondering if he's pulling through but will keep you all posted!
 
All paws crossed for little Thor here in the Payton household. He's lovely and I'm sure he'll make a great husboar :) xx
 
Best of luck - I was on the edge of my seat a few months ago when my Mali was neutered. Its a stressful time but so worth it when you see them interacting with other guineas and how happy they become.

Mali came through it really well - he was scoffing his veggies as soon as he got home and was pop corning the day after!
 
Bloomin'eck, for a quick operation they're certainly taking their time! Still no news :(

The little invalid's temporary home is all ready - am just off to pick him up :D
