Poor Thor! :( They are very pleased with how everything went and he's trying to have a go at the special treat (kale) I've given him in his evening veggies. Still very quiet and dopey but he hasn't been awake for that long. I think it will be a long night!

Aww bless look at him! He look's a little dopey! Glad to know he's doing well :)

He keeps forgetting he's eating and zones out for a minute, poor little fluffer.

Aw I feel your worry :( Willy is just back today from an operation too and isn't feel too well.

Thor-pig is still refusing to move from the corner he plonked himself in when he arrived home :( He's sporadically eating the food I've been giving him all evening that he dropped - as long as it's within head-stretching distance - but still no poops. Is this normal? How long should I wait until it's an emergency?

I asked for pain relief when I picked him up and was told that he shouldn't need it but to let them know in 2 or 3 days if he's suffering. He does keep shuffling slightly but I guess the fact he's eating is a good sign? I was also told that he shouldn't need syringe-feeding as he was nibbling the lettuce in his recovery room.

Sorry, newbie post-op piggy-mum on the worry attack!

Don't worry just yet- it's still not been that long. My Mali just slept for the first few hours and didn't walk far either. From memory he didn't poop till about 7 or 8 hours after. Keep calm x

My vet told me that they do op first thing in the morning so the vet can watch them for a good 5 or more hours after op so to make sure he has fully come round and up and about, eatting, drinking. Albie come around from op at 10:30 but vet keep him untill 5:00. So i dont know what he was like in that time. When i got him home he was fine. The vet told told me to bring albie back the first thing the next day so he could do a post op check. One of the thing he said he was checking for was to see if he needed more pain meds, he didnt. Albie was given pain med injection the day of the op which would last him the night. I'm surprised the vet didnt keep him longer after the op and that vet does what to see him tomorrow. If your worried phone vet and ask if they think he's OK. If he's not a 100% tomorrow get him back to vet.

We have poops :yahoo: Haha. Slightly more genteel than usual but it's a start. He's had a good go at his pellets in the night and done a lovely job of dragging his veggies into every corner of the cage for me to pick up, as well as lots of little piddle-puddles.

I put him next to the girls' cage before I went to bed and the reaction was instantaneous - he shot up and started rumbling his way up and down for a few seconds before getting tired and nodding off in the corner again. I think he appreciated the same-species interaction...

@maxdawn, that's what I had hoped would happen for Thor but when I rang the vet at 5:15 he'd only just come round from his recent op :( I have to take him back on Monday but have been told to contact them at any time if I'm concerned or he stops eating/pooping. Luckily I'm able to work from home today so will be keeping my beadies on him!

Another tip if he's looking a touch ropey is to give some critical care feed, it helps perk them up and they don't need to think about chewing etc while they are in pain. I remember Peter just sitting in the corner of the cage glaring at me as though I was the ultimate evil, its horrible but he's grateful for it now he has 3 wives lol

Glad to hear things have gone well!

My Alfie was neutered 6 weeks ago and the following morning I was back at the vets because he could hardly breathe! The vet wasn't sure he would make it. But a week later and lots of trips to the vets and medication, he picked up!

It's such a worry! But yesterday we started to introduce him to the girls, so it's all worth it!

Blimey, what a worry! I'm glad poor Alfie pulled through - well done for helping him through :)

It is horrible, when he does venture out of his pigloo for a quick nibble or to shake his thang at the girls he looks at me like, "Oh, THERE you are, traitor..."

His incisions are lovely and neat but he seems to have a rather wet and stinky tummy - could this be from lying in his own piddle all night?

Yes - it (and he) stinks :( I've just picked up some Critical Care from the vet and got about 3ml into him, as well as some water. I don't know if I should be worrying about how generally rubbish he obviously feels or if this is par for the course, poor little man :(

Did the vet say anything when you picked up the critical care? Did he come home on pain relief?

Could you wipe the wee off with a baby wipe maybe?

It was a receptionist I spoke to, they didn't seem overly concerned as he has nibbled at his veg today and done quite a lot of poops (they started off looking horrible but are getting back to normal now).

No pain relief either unfortunately, even though I asked. If he's still like this later I'm ringing them again. Grr.

Baby wipes sounds like a plan.

Great that he is pooing.

I do think pain relief is vital, though it is important to know what he was given under the anaesthetic and how long it is expected to last for.

I would take him back to see the vet if he doesn't perk up soon. Like I said before albie didn't need any more pain meds, vet had dosed him up well before he came home. But your guy might need some more. The vet also told me if he starts messing with he's wound ie licking nibbling it get him straight to vets. This can be a sign that it bothing him and he needs more pain meds.
How's he doing now ?

No change, still very quiet and huddled. He popped out of his pigloo for a bit of cucumber but he's such a different pig to normal.

I would take him back. I know I've only had one of mine done. But from what my vet told me, that he should be back to normal self by now. I think this is worrying

I've got his attention with a bit of grass but I think you're right - I don't think he's as he should be :(

Edward was really off when he was done I honestly thought I would lose him.Thank god for this forum they calmed me down and helped me so much.Looking back I think we just didn't have a clue what he would be like after the op and although the op was very well done our immediate after care was not brill. The problem is they don't tell you what to really expect or what to do.Edward was fine and believe or not I would do it all again and with the same vet.But if You are at all worried take him back.Edward was spaced out for quite a while

K, we're off to the veys again at 4pm. I might just take up camp in there!
