Dental Tim - Dental Issues

It's Ross taking him as he already has a lot of the journey cost covered with his monthly ticket but I will let him know.

Tim is eating with his head slightly tilted to the left tonight and on weighing him he has lost 100g since Sunday. He is due to see Simon on Wednesday but we are going to see if he can be seen on Monday. When he saw Kim we were told there was a potential issue in the upper left arcade and to get him seen in 4 to 5 weeks which this ties in with. He also seems to have something possibly going on with his left eye. He is on pain relief and is taking his syringe feed well.

Ring in the morning. They are open between 9 and 12. Hopefully you should be able to get an appointment for Monday. Stress it's really important he is seen sooner rather than later. What is the issue with the eye? Is it bulging?

I will do thanks Debbie. Will ask for the afternoon on Monday if possible as Ross has a meeting he can't get out of in the morning so will take Tim with him. The eye seems to have more white on the edge of it than normal. Ross thinks it is bulging slightly. Am thinking abscess?

I am thinking retrobulbar abscess. I hope I am wrong, but even if it is, you can get a good result if it is treated quickly. Feel around and on the eye itself? Can you feel any resistance? Feel both eyes. It can be very subtle but you may pick up a difference in how they feel.

Ross has him sat on him so is going to feel around in a mo. He is just eating some veg. Is treatment with Zithromax?

He can't feel anything.

This is his eye, it's a bit blurry as he was chewing at the time.

Yes Zithromax would be the antibiotic of choice I think. I had a temporary resident come here who had a retrobulbar abscess that was causing the eye to bulge quite badly. Simon was worried the eye would dry out, so he added lubrication and sutured the eye closed to give the Zithromax time to work. Her eye was saved!

That's really good to know. Will do, Ross is calling first thing as he knows what time he can get there train wise.

Been a manic morning, and an emotional one. Turns out Simon and Kim aren't working Monday so we initially kept our appointment for Wednesday but took him to local vet this morning to get Zithromax and stonger pain relief, they weren't however confident in dealing with the eye and it has got worse over night, so he is going to stay with Debbie on Monday afternoon with Sophie and Debbie will take him to Simon for his 9am appointment on Tuesday. Then we will see what the appoitment brings and go from there. Thank you so much Debbie. This is his eye this morning:

Tim is with Debbie now ready for his appointment in the morning. He has Sophie with him. Going to be very odd tonight when we go to bed as they live in the bedroom and there will be no rumbling and charging about.

Here is his eye now, much redder but not really any worse than it was thank goodness.

They'll love that, Tim's very nosey, Sophie watches from a distance, they are probably enjoying the peace too without asbo hamster ramming their cage every ten seconds in her ball. Thank you Debbie, I really appreciate it.

Tim has seen Kim and has been put on the following:
1ml Zithromax a day which is higher than he was on (especially as it now turns out Ross mixed it with too much water)
Metacam twice a day for anti-inflammatory reasons
Tramadol with the intention of weaning him off it in time. He was already on this from our local vet
He sees Kim on Friday morning where she will assess if anything needs to be done to stop the eye drying out, this would involve applying a lubricant and suturing it shut to give the Zithromax time to work. As this procedure is not without it's negative aspects this is a last resort and will only be done if they are worried about the eye on Friday. He is likely to be on Zithromax for a longer period than normal and will stay with Debbie for now.
As for his teeth, the upper left arcade had some elongation and so was filed but the right side was perfect. There was some elongation of the bottom teeth and so they were also filed.
In the meantime he is bright in himself and apparently full of it and humping Sophie, which is normal Tim.

Debbie correct me if I have any of that wrong. Thank you for today.

Glad you have some answers for little Tim.
Hope the meds kick in soon and he is feeling better soon- although he sounds quite chipper :-)
