Hello!

I've had my piggies for about 2 months now, and have had some issues bonding with them, I was hoping for some tips! :)

This is the second time I've kept guinea pigs, and the last ones lived in a normal wooden hutch. To pick them up, we kinda chased them a bit and managed the catch them to pick them up.

However with my new guinea pigs, we have an Eglu Go Hutch

and we are finding it very difficult to pick them up.

What i'm currently trying, is sitting down in front of the hutch in a pen, and trying to hand feed them to get them used to me, but i'm not sure if it's getting anywhere (they only take the food when i stay still).

What methods can I try to get them to bond with me?
Are there any Eglu hutch owners here who can help?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi and welcome!

I sincerely hope that you have got that hutch under cover and well insulated, especially in the current winter weather!
That hutch is not the most practical design, to be honest.

Yeah, the hutch is a nice idea, but not always very easy!

It's good for the guinea pigs though, being able to go out whenever they want. We made a vinyl waterproof cover that goes over the top, which we peg down to keep out all the rain, and the old guinea pigs lived outside anyway, we give them a heat pad if necessary. We also shut them in at night.
