There are differing opinions but I would give Toby a good 4 weeks to dry out so to speak after the neutering before letting him near a sow.

there are no long term effects from mild overdoses so i would not worry, as long as you didnt put too many drops on him all together! you might find him scratching where too much went however. all the best! i have heard extreme cases can be life threatening but now you have used invermectin he will be fine. invermectin has saved an un countable amount of guinea pigs! No worries now :) just lots of tlcxx>>>xoxo

Thanks piggies :) I supose it's good to give him some time after the op to get used to things and such

How old is Toby? 135g is like baby weight so that cant be right :{
To give you an example, Elmo weighs 3lb 3oz which is 1445.8 grams or nearly 1 1/2 kgs!

I think you need to check so he has the right dose or maybe you wrote it down wrong here :))

He needs to be a decent size to have him neutered too and at least 5 months old :)

yes I agree, 135g is very small, how old exactly is Toby?! Did you write it down wrong?

It's not just recovery time shortly after the op he could still make your new sow pregnant

Okay now I'm worred I just put him on the scales (digital) and thats what they said 138g* Ooh no what if they're broke! He's three so this can't be right Well if anything I would have given him too litte an amount not too much right....?

I think your scales may be broken Kerry! New born babies range from 60-100gms!

You would have given him too little, therefore you need to re weigh him on some new scales and work out dosage difference.

Okay well thats a lot better than overdosing him (phew) So I gave him eight say he needs 12 just give him four more drops? I'm taking him to my nannys and using her scales but i dont know what they weigh in could be imperial like pounds and all that

if they are in lbs and ozs its easy to convert - go online with that and you can convert to grams. either way get a correct weight!

How long ago did you go the drops?

I would just do the replacement drops, if you get him weighed today and get the drops on as soon as possible.

Remember not to do too many! double check it all!

Yeah I will tripple check! He really hates getting these drops on so this should be fun lol I'll go round now and post asap!

okay turns out there was a button on the scales I have to hit it said he was...1kg 148g but the treatment says things like 600-700 1 tubes things like that how will I know here is the treatment dosage...

10-20g 1 drop
20-40g 2 drops
40-60g 3 drops
60-80g 5 drops
80-100g 6 drops
100-150g 1/2 tube (8 drops)
150-200g 11 drops
200 to 300g 1 tube
300 to 400g 1 1/2 tubes (1 tube + eight drops)
400-600g 2 tubes
600-800g 3 tubes

Kerry this doesnt sound right to me for a guinea pig. If a piggy was born 10-20gms it wouldnt survive.

Are you reading the directions for a guinea pig, and that not of another animal?

Gurr I feel so frustrated wondering weather I'm right or not is it too much to ask to find a freaking pair of scales that WORK?!

These are weights for all small animals tho it says here about other animals(small rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, hamsters, mice gerbils, chinchillas, other rodents and birds) if they have mites so this is just like a guideline to whatever animal you have

the weights are completely wrong, i wouldnt give 3 tubes of ivermection to my piggy.

The weights stated dont match that of a piggy. they are too low.

Where did you get the ivermection from? what is the exact name.

I'm trying to find out guidelines on the net.

the weight of 1148gms sounds right BTW, thats about right for a adult piggy.

She gave me it in a little white plastic bag one it doesnt say:)>>> just has a label on it with the address and stuff no specific name

to be honest maybe you should contact the vet.

Ivermectin drops are not used in "tubes" and that sounds completely wrong.

I think you should ring them up and say you are confused as the weight of your piggy is alot more than the silly weights they have given you.

Its getting all a bit confusing as to what exactly you have been given.

Not to worry, they will know and are obiliged to provide you with advice on this!

Let us know how it goes.

oh Kerry please dont worry yourself all will be fine. Ask to speak to the person that gave you this tube of stuff and ask them to confirm what it is and how much you should give your piggy of 1148gms.

Try not to worry yourself, it will be fine. i just dont want to tell you do do one thing and overdose it. Better to safe than sorry.

Can you call today? Then it will put your mind at rest and your piggy can get his treatment.
