Tonks’ lady lumps... Op due.

Thank you all! She’s now settled in the cage with her family around her. They’re mostly on their best behaviour which makes a change! She’s had a bit of a munch on some hay since being in there but mostly wants to sleep bless her.

Glad that she is home and has the support of her family around her. Hope that she continues to improve and gets well soon xx

Poor tonks. I hope she is doing better today. Get well soon little lady.

How is the lovely Tonks doing today?
She’s doing a bit better, still a bit subdued bless her but I guess that’s understandable. She’s currently got her entire head in the hay bag so that’s a good sign :)) She’s lost weight but I’m guessing that’s from the tissue removal but I’m weighing her daily til she’s better.

Her post op appointment is on Tuesday, hopefully we’ll have some news by then. Just trying to keep an eye on her wound, last time she was a terrible patient and kept chewing it. I’m a bit worried about one side of the wound (the side that had the necrotic tissue, she chewed it last time) but I think it’s okay. Keep treating it with renasan to keep it clean, which she hates!

The other pigs are on their best behaviour and it’s very strange for the place to be so quiet!

Just a bit of an update and for some advice, we just had a post op check. She’s been chewing it a little and opened one side of it, with the visit today the vet said she had a haematoma. So I guess she was trying to fix it herself the little monkey! We had it drained and flushed and it is still open so I’m just a bit worried about keeping it clean. It’s still leaking a little I think where it has been flushed. There was no sign of pus or infection at all and she’s still on ABs and metacam so I’m guessing I just need to keep it clean.

So is a twice daily salt water wash is the best bet?

Little monkey - but good she hasn’t done serious damage to her wound.
I’m not sure about cleaning the wound but I used Hibiscrub for Jemimah when she had an abscess and I was flushing that out.
Hope Tonks mends quickly

Apparently her opening it was a good thing, but don’t tell her that! Yes she was flushed with hibiscrub today at the vets, I should’ve asked for some... d’oh!

I presume it’s similar to an abscess, it doesn’t smell as bad but it’s still bloody (literally) gross haha. She doesn’t seem to mind me messing about with it too much so I suppose that’s a bonus. I’m just not sure if it’s supposed to be leaking...

Tonks had to be rushed into the vets this morning as she was gushing blood from her wound. She’s had to have another operation to see where it’s coming from and fix it. By the sounds of it she’s got a deep infection that piggies are prone to after surgery but I don’t remember what it’s name was. I’m absolutely gutted, I’ve been in pieces all day worrying about her! We’re going to have to try baytril now which won’t be a barrel of laughs.

Poor little girl is so prone to all of this and I think she’ll always have issues recovering from anything. I’m seriously rethinking a spay for her but I really don’t know what would be best for her... My head is killing me :(

Thank you all so much, it’s been awful. I think I’ve mentioned Zithromax before and they didn’t think it was as strong? I can’t really remember now but I’ve got a check up for her on Monday and I’ll ask them then. She’s not going to be impressed with the baytril in any case bless her, all my pigs hate it with a passion!

I love her to bits but my goodness is she such a troublesome piggy! I really hope it doesn’t come back as she seems prone to internal infections and I’m still not sure what caused the dead tissue in the first place :(

Aw, sending healing vibes to Tonks, hoping she makes a sound recovery. What an awful time it is for you all x

Zithromax is far better, and stronger, than baytril!

Thanks guys :) She’s now relaxing with her family after her meds and some food. They’re a good bunch, hopefully they continue to keep the bickering down while she recovers.

That’s what I thought too, when she looked it up I just kinda rolled with it. I suppose it’s because they’re unfamiliar with it and therefore unsure about it. I wish there was more piggy licensed medicines and more research done into it all!

I don’t suppose you have a link or anything that I could show my vet tomorrow? X

I just wanted to gather a bit of information in preparation because I’m not sure if this is working. I know it’s still early days but I’m worried that it’s just going to get worse :(

This evening her wound opened up a little again and has bled. Not as bad as last time though. It just doesn’t seem to be healing on that side and it doesn’t smell great :(

I’m desperately trying to get an idea of what I can do for her, can anyone help? I don’t know how badly it’s infected but I’m really scared for her :(

Maybe ask your vet to speak with Simon. 01604 478888 or [email protected]

Hope you can get some Zithromax, think my Pedro would have had lots more issues without it with his abscess/eye removal (on top of all the other ones he had!).
Hope she feels better and you can sort the nasty thing out x hope you're ok too x

So sorry to hear Tonks isn't doing too well. Sending healing vibes and big hugs.
Hope she starts to improve soon. Everything crossed for her. x
