I just cannot believe this....... all my pigs are fed twice a day 10am and 8pm, at 10am this morning they were all fine, it was my sons birthday today and we had a party, one of the girls wanted to see the guinea pigs..... we looked at the girls first and then I opened the door of the boys..... Milo was dead! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I quickly shut the door in total disbelief and had to run indoors where I burst out crying..... my husband removed him from the cage, I have checked him and there is not a mark on him, I just cant for the life of me understand why he died? He was absolutely fine yesterday, been in the run with Lucky, fine when I fed him at 10am and dead by 3pm? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Why do these things happen, he wasnt even a year old, he wasnt ill? What do you think? I need to understand why this has happened

Nicky x

I don't know but I'm so sorry for your loss :'( It's always such a shock when they leave us early with no symptoms x

I'm so sorry this happened, piggies are good at hiding things from us, Rip Milo 0:)

Nicky, I know just how you feel, we lost Scampy today despite him being fine until this morning.

I think these things just happen, I understand why you want to know that it's happened though, I feel the same.

R.I.P. Milo x

Nicky I am so sorry to hear about Milo. :'(

It's so sad when a pet dies so young. If he was eating fine in the morning it was obviously quick & he wouldn't have suffered. I know thats little conciliation but if they have to go all we can ever hope for is that they don't suffer.

So sorry about Milo RIP little pig and run happy under Rainbow bridge :(

I can sympathise with you completely it is devastating i lost Babe the same way he was fine at 10pm the night before and was dead at 9.30 the following morning

RIP little fella :(

Oh Nicky, I am so sorry you have lost Milo in this way.It is a horrible shock when you find a previously happy healthy pig has died.

Take consolation in the fact that Milo would not have suffered and would have died instantly. This was a heart attack, and sadly seems to be fairly common in gps.

Over the years I have lost a lot of pigs like this.,have come down in the morning and found a piggy dead.,quite often with ites head in the food bowl.!H

Hugs from The Epsom Mob.

oh hun, i'm soo sorry to hear that. :'( It is such a shock when things happen like that. i don't really know why. it sounds like little Milo had a great and happy life right until the end and you were a great mummy to him. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: be brave. my thoughts and big hugs are with you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Aw poor baby, :'( this happened to one of my gerbils, its true though, they are such gentle little souls we rarely get to see when something is wrong until its too late. At least it was quick.

It has hit me today :'( :'( :'( I couldnt really show my feelings yesterday, I had 15 5 year olds here at my sons party, I did cry but my OH got cross and told me to pull myself together so I had to put on a brave face but today I'm in a mess, I just cant believe it, no-one understands how I feel... if one more person says "its only a guinea pig" i think I will lose control of myself......

Nicky xx

Nicky,

Everyone on the forum understands how you feel, most of us have been through this ourselves. You must be allowed to grieve.

I have lost many pigs over many years and I still break my heart when I lose one.I handle it by going for walks on my own, talking on the phone to friends who are gp slaves, and making an even bigger fuss of my piggies. After my walk,I make a cup of tea and sit with my most laid back piggy for a good old cuddle.

I am lucky that I have the support of my oh because he loves the pigs as much as I do.

My god. You poor thing. I didn't realise they could just go like that. I can understand your devastation, I know how I would feel if any of mine when and we've only had them a week.

Chin up...grieve for Milo, and as Maryh said, let the other piggies help with your loss and have lots of guinea cuddles :'( :'( :'(

Everyone on here knows what you are going through. Sorry to hear about Milo.
RIP Milo 0:)

Mary is spot on Nicky - we all know exactly what you are going through :'( Makes me really mad when, as you say, people tend to be so dismissive when piggies pass, but you are among friends here lovey.

Big hugs from me and my gang, go and give one of your other piggies a big cuddle and think of all the good times you shared with Milo. RIP little one 0:) and remember Nicky it is perfectly normal and healthy to cry.

Exactly. I know exactly how you are feeling as well Nicky as this happened to us just yesterday. It's incredibly distressing, and it makes me cross when people dismiss them as casual pets. They don't know about their characters, personalities and affection. Caviesgalore is right as well with the fact that we understand on here. Thank goodness for this forum is all I can say.

I am so sorry, RIP.

Its so sad, what a short life but i know that you gave him the best you can get

I'm so very sorry.

We do understand. I know the grief is overwhelming. Thinking of you, love xx

Aw! so sorry about poor Milo! :'( :'( I am sure everyone on here feels so sorry for you! Most of us have lost a piggy or two unexpectedly early! I am sure you gave him the best life possible :) Popcorn free at the Bridge little one! :'( :'(

No, the children didnt see cause I opened the bedroom door of the hutch and was knelt down so my body was covering the hutch and I just quickly shut the door and said that he was asleep and best to get the girls out, I managed it very discreetly despite how I was feeling, I let my son see him after cause Milo was actually Aarons piggy.

Nicky xx

I'm so sorry - it must of been an awful shock.

My little girl has just said to say she is sorry too x
