Has anyone tried this yet? Saw it in GPM and like that you can just throw it on flowers beds, or so they say...
 
I've been thinking about it, I really like the idea of it and the bottom of my garden is subsiding so could do with some extra soil :lol!: but I'm hesitant due to the coconut based stuff I use for my frogs being so dusty when dry, it's not something id want piggies sitting on if it's similar but I think id definitely give it a go at some point. Hoping someone comes along thats tried it!
 
I use vetbed in the main cages and Back to Nature in the hay boxes. Most of my waste goes into my compost heaps but sometimes they get too full and some has to go to landfill. Back to nature is paper based and can be thrown straight onto the garden as well, it's doing wonders breaking down my clay soil. Winter is the worst time for the bins to get full as they need warmth to rot down. This winter I am going to try digging a big trench across the garden and disposing of piggy waste that way.
I will have a look at Tropibed and see how the sums work out, it may be worth a try!

Me too, sounds good but looks very fine. Keep hoping someone tries it out before me :nod:

I think for me back to nature works out too expensive as I need a lot now with my 8 piggies. Shame as we have clay soil that really needs help!
 
I found the 30ltr on vetuk for about £12 the price of a smaller bag in shops. It works well for me as they only wee in the corners of the trays and I can just replace the wet bits daily and do a complete change once a week. I only buy a bag every 6 - 8 weeks, they also sell the nuggets cheaper so I do a big shop and get free postage. I can see it would be expensive if you did whole cages with it.
 
So it arrived today. Not had a chance to try it yet but so far so good. I've attached a picture.
Its lovely and soft, very much like dried peat. Smelt a little musty in the bag but outside its fine. No dust that I can see.

So far I like it. I'll let you know how the team like it in a few days when I clean them out....

Hi, gawd yes I keep meaning to post!

It’s ok, I had megazorb one end of the run, Fitch in their sleeping area and tropibed in the rest. The tropibed does smell musty and damp to start with and they definitely preferred the Fitch and megazorb but they have got used to it now.

This week I used all tropibed and they were good with it. It’s very cool underfoot and a tad naturally damp which they like! Heath is a teddy so he gets dry feet but since being on tropibed they are not as dry which is a bonus. It’s not dusty when put down.

It’s very messy as they flick it up with their feet, so if you have fleece and and indoor cage it goes everywhere..as does megazorb.

It’s very absorbent and easy to scope out when You clean it. You can’t poo pick very well as you cannot easily see the poops due to its colouring.

So overall I like it. It’s very expensive though compared to Fitch and megazorb (about 3x I think). It didnt make me wheezy like megazorb. I’ve put some on the garden but it’s so dry I’ve not really been able to do dig it in but I can see it will be great for the borders!

Fitch is still my absolute favourite and if the Guineas could speak then it would be theirs too. It’s far superior as it does not have any dust, you see poops, and any blood in pee if you have bladder pigs and it’s very absorbent. It doesn’t go everywhere when They run around either and much easier to scoop out.

Since Fitch have been out of stock I have tried megazorb but I honestly loath it.far too dusty, smells and is too drying on their skin. It’s makes me wheeze terribly badly so I’m going to stay with tropibed until Fitch have more stock in.

Thank you so much for the review. Sounds like it might be ones if those beddings you either love or hate. Also perhaps a bit cooler if it’s slightly damp.
From looking at it I imagine it’s almost like a soil consistency?

Hi, I keep meaning to take a picture of it. But yes it is very soil like, very similar to dried peat in actual fact.
 
Thank you @Guinea Slave it sounds interesting but I think I will stick to Back to Nature in the hay boxes as the boys are indoors and Tropibed sounds messy. I find it easy to scoop out the wet bits of Back to Nature and just do a complete change once a week.
