Adult Guinea Pig
Did Polo try other kinds of antibiotics, or did the vet mention that?I'm not sure what the options are, I will need to discuss them with the vets. I hope an X ray with sedation will be enough to secure treatment. I need to research ear issues and lung problems. The antibacs work, so it must be an infection. In humans you might start looking at ways of combining antibiotics and delivering them. In guinea pigs, there is only the oral syringe, unless there is a safe option to apply ear dropsNo steroids or penicillin. The nebuliser might help.
I'm not very good at different antibiotics and whats best for what, my vet usually prescribes Bactrim (Trimetoprimsulfa). Joe once got Azhitromycin and some diarrhea on the mail, but he was very sensitive. Bactrim was a better option for him, and besides from some loser stools none of boys didnt suffer from any side effects. Maybe it slowed down Kongos appetite a little bit the first days, but that could also be the URI... and it was Kongo, he still ate for at least two elephants.
