Hello again. Newer Owner here. So if you've read my other posts you'll know about my one piggy precious I've had her for 2 and a half months. Now one quick off topic question. If piggies are younger. Do they sleep a lot more than hours like most people say piggies sleep. Because my little precious sleeps a lot and I don't know if it's because she's alone or not. Because I give her tons of attention and she has a huge cage with a lot of toys.
NOW back to your normal scheduled programming:
I'm getting a new piggy today and I wanted to know what the best piggy companion for my piggy would be. My piggy is kinda on the shy side. She doesn't really come out much and she stays hidden most of the day. So would it be best for me to get a more hyper piggy to teach her how to be happy and hyper and show her how to play a lot more? Or a shy piggy like her? Another thing. From experience (from you guys) what is the best way to bond two female guinea pigs?

Piggy may be sleeping more from loneliness- it’s piggy companionship she’s been missing.
Also in this heat I find mine have a lot less energy.
Mind you I don’t have as much energy either!

So glad to hear you’re getting another piggy.
Where from?
How old is Piggy?

You will need to give your new girl time to settle in - at least a week.
She will need a vet check unless she’s come from a reputable rescue.

Keep her cage close to Piggy’s so they can hear and smell each other before you introduce them.

Read the bonding guides on the forum - they are excellent for guidance.
I’m in the process of bonding 2 pairs and found the guides invaluable.

There are other forum members who have a wealth of experience and are willing to answer questions too. They are as invaluable as the written guides.

Hi

My girl was only 7/8 weeks when I introduced a friend. She was also sleeping all day. She was so depressed and desperate for a friend I bonded them straight away. Her friend was 11 weeks old and instantly they were licking ears and poppcorning from both having been kept alone. Now they wreck havock in the cage.

Hello. Um. Is there a specific Personilty my piggy would benefit from? Like a energetic piggy or a shy piggy like her?
Also I don't live in the UK but this website was very valuable and had lots of good advice. I live in Michigan in the US and I've called the shelters and they don't have ANY piggies . But I so desperately want to get my girl a friend so my only option is to go through a petco or petsmart.

Sometimes you can't always go to rescue, so yes the welfare of your piggy is most important so getting a piggy from wherever you can is best. I would go for a younger piggy, younger piggies are often easier to bond with older piggies as they should go to the bottom of the piggy hierarchy

Have a read of our bonding guide here Bonding: Illustrated Dominance Behaviours And Dynamics

Make sure your cage is big enough for two and you have two hideys, two food bowls etc....
