Guinea pigs <3
Senior Guinea Pig
I just typed out a big long response and lost it mallethead
I tried out a new vets today as I didn't completely trust my old one, Midlands vets in Leyton. They do specialise in exotics so I was hoping for a better experience.
I don't feel like I've got a firm diagnosis so I still feel unsure of what's going on, however he has put her on a course of baytril 0.2ml until the course is finished. He basically said he didn't want to rush into things ie x-ray and wanted to give her the baytril and see how she goes. I think he said the urine sample detected blood but again he didn't really talk me through me it - next time I need to be assertive and ask more questions.
I liked that he didn't inject the baytril like they do at my old vets. He also asked me about her vit C intake, is this a sign of a cavy savy vet or would any old vet ask about this? It was so much cheaper than my old vets too, they charged me £80 for Dottie for exactly the same thing, the new vets charged £35. He did start to tell me that he doesn't think diet makes much of a difference and some piggies are more vulnerable to these types of things than others, but I guess that is an age old debate!
Anyhow, we'll go with the antibiotics - he didn't suggest any probiotics (sign of a poor cavy savy vet?!) He did empty her bladder though which I thought was pretty cool! I apologised for her peeing on him like an idiot mallethead
Anyhow, opinions please re the new vets...I really want to find one I can trust! Fingers crossed for Mabel getting better soon (although if I hadn't of noticed when I cleaned them out I don't think I could tell that anything is wrong with her!)
Thanks again for all your help and advice!
