Just when I think it's all doom and gloom and pigs coming in left, right and centre and I despair at some members of the human race, something always happens to restore my faith.

Last week, Teresa took 30 pigs from awful conditions, the poor things - 5 came to me and were very wobbly and malnourished but are now doing ok. Unfortunately 3 were already dead, and one has since died at Teresa's, despite all the care she received.

Then another 10 at the weekend... well looked after but unwanted, one of which gave birth to 4 on the night of arrival. I didn't have space for all of them, so took 8 to a lovely chap Allan, who rehomes, and he was so lovely and would do anything for the pigs, he really made me happy again and the pigs with him are all doing well and he sends me updates! His attitude when I rang him (in a bit of a state!) was simply 'bring them all here, we'll sort them out' - he's a life-saver!

Vikki's had several unwanted litters in and no space but was able to foster some out locally, with lots of offers of help.

Then today, getting upset about the 3 pigs still with Teresa who are in a really bad way, and worrying about my little lot - then had a lovely email from someone local offering to help however they can, with fostering etc. and very kind.

And some of the people that I've met since doing this have just been so lovely and kind and generous that it makes it all worthwhile - the people who offer homes to the pigs, and the other people I meet doing the same thing, like Ron. And of course Vikki, who's taught me everything I know! xx>>>

It's like the good stuff happens to make the see-saw balance with the bad stuff, if you know what I mean!

Anyway, sorry for rambling, just wanted to share!

Thank you to all the fosterers, rescues, rescuers, adoptive parents etc of all unwanted animals and children xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There has to be some good to balance out the bad doesn't there?, otherwise this world would degenerate into an evil place...doesn't bear thinking about.

Don't forget to put yourself on that list of wonderful people Sophie!

I would also like to add that when rescues are having an event to help raise awareness and funds, people on forums like this, people such as you and I CAN do something! A small donation of 20p or 50p, posting that photograph on the forum for a rescue calendar or competition, writing that short story or poem....

I have found that people think "I will do it later" or "I did it last time, someone else can do it this time" and that sort of thing.

We cant all rescue every piggy that needs a home or foster but we CAN help those that do to keep the balance of good and perhaps even tip the scales x>>

Sorry Sophie,a wee bit off topic, but important I feel :)

If you want a feel good programme to watch along the vein of " there are good people in the world" and restore your faith in humanity then RIch girl Poor Girl is on ch4 tonight and The Times has siad it restores the faith in humanity so must be good!

Good outweighs the bad in a lot of instances and these peopl who have helped you are the good ones (as are you!):)

Secret Millionairre makes me cry too... All be it when i think of how much money they have and how little i have...:))
It is nice to see people help others out though...

It's not until you go on forums that you fully begin to become aware of just how many animals end up in rescues - it is unbelievable! There are so many irresponsible people out there. I know many thought they had a good heart to begin with but people need to seriously think before taking on the responsibility of an animal - it makes me so mad when people think the easy way out/answer is just to stick them in a rescue......and there you go, their problem is solved.

I only wish that I could help rescue centres out more (I do donate a little of my money) but I just don't have the finances. I just manage with my 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs.......but am responsible enough to know that that is my limit and not to get any more, despite the temptation!

Couldn't agree more - most people who give them up for adoption are well-meaning enough but have ended up with more than they can cope with, either because of unplanned litters or change in circumstances.

Also because of the credit crunch, lots of people are finding it hard enough to live without extra mouths to feed, and unfortunately the animals are the first to go. It's the same with cats, dogs etc. too and rescue centres are all full to bursting.

I've got no space here at the moment - because we're very careful quarantine, I won't put new pigs near my own pigs or current rescues, it's too risky and you never know what they might have even if they look healthy. That's why I've got pigs in 3 different rooms in my house at the moment - if any more come in, they'll have to be quarantined in the downstairs loo! :{

I think all of you who rescue, foster, and generally take care of the unwanted piggies are simply wonderful, and I certainly know where my money would go if ever I won anything on the Lottery.

Sophie, You're doing a fabulous job.

Rescue can be a bit overwhelming sometimes and it certainly is an emotional rollercoaster but there are some really lovely people out there

When people stand up and want to be counted and offer to help it makes what we do all the more worthwhile. Rescue work can make us feel very isolated at times and it is heartwarming to know that other people care just as much as we do. One of the lovely parts of this job is meeting the really caring people who are so very committed to their animals.

Good luck with all your new arrivals xx

I think everyone who rescues must go on a rollercoaster ride all the time, but i read a saying tonight which means so much in this case "When we do something out of great love rather than great expectation, more comes back to us than we could have ever imagined" it's a Reiki saying but I do believe that karma hit's us all at one time or another. I know times are hard but it's not the animals fault and I'm lucky I can give each month to animal charities so I don't want to preach just wanted to say what a good job you all do. x>>
