URI treatment options

Thanks for providing the extra information. I agree, it isn’t a massive amount of weight loss and i wouldn’t be worrying yet particularly if he still eating for himself as well as taking his support feeds but I would monitor the situation daily

Weighed Jaffa this morning. He’s maintained.
I'm struggling to get the critical care into him, he just gets annoyed at me and bites the end of the syringe.
Anything I can give him to help him gain weight or pick up his appetite?

Maintaining his weight is fine. It’s dramatic drops which are concerning.
Is the critical care coming out the syringe properly ie does he bite it because it becomes clogged? Perhaps you could offer the critical care off of a a spoon so he can lick it.
If he is still eating for himself in between syringe feeds, then that is a good thing as that shows he does still have some appetite.
If he is having a probiotic then that can help perk the appetite

He genuinely seems to be eating a lot better. He’s had a full bowl of veggies, forage & some treats from his advent calendar.

Should I worry about feeding critical care?

He needs to be eating plenty of hay - veggies, forage and treats aren’t going to help him maintain his weight, only large amounts of hay will do that. He needs to eat a constant source of fibre, so unless he is eating plenty of hay - which you can’t tell by eye only by weighing him - then he needs to still have the critical care.

:agr: If he's not eating what he should be in a day then you really need to keep up with the syringe feeding to help him recover. Have you tried a bowl of mashed up pellets?

I mean the amount he is eating, if it isn't enough then he needs supplementing feeds.

Update:
Jaffa lost another 30g. I bought some apple and banana critical care so I’ve managed to get 30ml into him today.
I don’t get it though, he’s popcorning, eating lots & is being his normal naughty self. How can he be losing weight? Is this a concern?

I rang the vets and they said if he continues to lose weight then to bring him in over Christmas which I will do for sure (touch wood nothing happens).

How often in a day are you syringe feeding him/how many hours between each feeding?

About 3-4 times a day. A good few hours between each feed. I’ve managed to feed him 4 times today the other days have been a struggle so I’ve only managed to feed him 5/10ml
