My 2 piggies, Penny and Luna, seem to be settling in brilliantly. Still a bit skittish, but other than that they seem fine.
Today when I gave them their veggies, I popped a strawberry in their cage too. They've also had some shredded beetroot (out of the asda salad bistro bags) over the past few days, and I also gave them some red pepper.
This evening when I went in to check on them, I noticed some red patches on their fleece. I looks like a strawberry red colour, and the first thing that came to mind was that they had bloody urine. I then realised that I gave them red coloured foods, and I read that beetroot and strawberries can turn their urine red.
I suppose what I'm asking is whether this is likely to be the cause? Then again, it could just be where they've eaten the strawberry, and dropped it on the fleece. I'll definately keep an eye on it though. If it seems like it is from their wee, I'll get them to the vets.

most likely from the sounds of the betroot it's probably food related, if your worried change the fleece don't give them any of those coloured foods and then watch them for a while it may be a little tinted at first, but it should go normal, i know some people put down white towels instead of coloured to monitor wee better when they're worried (:

Beetroot can cause urine to turn a red colour. If your worried then dont feed the beetroot for a couple of days and then monitor the colour of their urine to make sure no one has a urinary infection.

x.

I have just changed their fleece (for the second time today) over to a very light beige coloured one. Will keep an eye on it over the next day or so, and give you an update with the outcome.
Thank you :)
