If you can get a feed in before you go to bed it could make all the difference.

Aim for about 5ml first of all. I think she comes under the first category in the "how much to feed" section of the guide.

@helen105281 I went to give her some more but she didn't want it. I haven't tried that, I'm not sure what sort of food I should use. Just normal guinea pig nuggets? but softened in water?
The blood has stopped... it seems clearer..and not as soar and red as it was before. There's no trace of there even being blood there anymore.

Aww bless her, i have a 6yr old piggy who had a lot of problems with UTI's & bleeding, she had an ultrasound scan & it turned out she had a walnut sized ovarian cyst. with information found mostly on here for the vet she had 2 hormone (HCG) injections, 7-10 days apart & touch wood we haven't had much of a problem since, My Ellie was bleeding quite a lot at one stage & seemed to be more so when she pooped as opposed to wee'd. She was given metacam for a few days to help reduce any inflammation & pain.
i'm no expert but as the others have said make sure she's eating & drinking well, keeping her hydrated & the gut moving can make a real difference.

Good luck & healing vibes to your furball baby, from the girls & I. xx

@helen105281 Oh no I meant like how many pellets compared to water, or should I just mix it till its like a gloopy consistency?

Mix until it is gloopy but it needs to fit in a 1ml syringe.

This is what the syringe should look like for feeding; cut the end off, remove the rubber & file smooth. You can use softened nuggets, try to get it to a consistency that's not too thick or too runny, as you don't want to aspirate her. Syringe a small amount at a time, say a third of the syringe, place the tip behind the front teeth & aim the syringe to the inside of the cheek, not the back of the throat. It helps to stroke their heads whilst doing it :)

@helen105281 Well she took 2ml and about just over half of the 3rd one before she had enough... She licked some water off my finger too. and took about another half a syringe of water in drabs throughout the food syringing. No more blood yet either, and the area looks as if its de-swelling, if thats even such a thing (it sounded better than deflating) there was some poos where she was laying too... but I cant tell if that was her..or Amber.
I feel so much better now shes had some fluids and food! Thank you so much! Sorry if I came across as a panicking reck! I just felt so helpless.
Its not over yet though! I will get her to a vet first thing tomorrow! and also get up in the night to check on her a giver her some water & food.

Yeah mine was about that consistency! Cutting the top of the syringe off was harder than it looked! I think I did okay for my first try! she didnt come out too messy either!

@helen105281 she's not great, she's not got any worse but equally not got any better! So I'm booking in to see the guinea pig person at vets and pets at 12. I tried to syringe feed her more food this morning but she wasn't wasn't too keen. She took some but I'm not sure how much.

Fingers crossed for your little girl.

Glad you are seeing Amir. Good luck.

Pleased you have an excellent vet onboard to help her out. What is her name?

Best of luck for your vet visit. I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed!

Very ill piggies don't have any appetite. It is no fun to get any food whatoseverinto them, but the more you can, the bigger the chances that she can make it. We have been there with piggies of ours and know how hard and despiriting it is!

If you see this before your appointment (though you are unlikely to have a mobile signal there) please ask for an xray or scan to be done.

Another thing to add, if she is sore from urine scald it would be a good idea to use a barrier cream like Bepanthen or Sudocrem to help the skin.

I'm sad to say that upon arrival at the vets she had deteriated a lot dispite me syringe feeding her water to keep her hydrated.
When we got there she couldn't even stand, she was twitching and gasping for air. The vet (who was lovely) said that there was nothing he could really do for her and that pigs that reach that stage don't really recover he could have tried fluids (but she wasn't dehydrated) but the way she was I just wanted her pain and desperation to stop. He also said it would be likely she wouldn't make it anyway.
I then took the decision to put her to sleep. It was so hard to watch.
I'm a training veterinary nurse assistant so I guess it was easier than it would have been as I've seen euthanasia before, but of course it was much harder seeing my own pet.
The vet said she had two ovarian cysts, and when I told him the vet I'd been to yesterday didnt give her fluids even though I told him she hasn't drunk anything he seemed quite shocked.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me last night I think that helped her get through the night and certainly helped me deal with it knowing there were so many people supporting me. So thank you all.
I don't know how her sister Amber will deal with this, but I do intend on getting her a companion.

A very sad, Cat x

I am so sorry. You did everything you could and did her proud in getting her to an expert this morning. I am really sorry you had to let your little one go, it is never an easy decision to make and is heartbreaking, but remember you made it with nothing but love for her and it was the kindest thing to do.
Huge Hugs x

Sleep well little girl

BIG HUGS!

I am very sorry that the only gift you could give your poorly girl was the ultimate one; to relieve her from her suffering. Knowing that you are making the right decision doesn't lessen the actual emotional pain of the loss and it will never get any easier. All your pets are special to you because you have this bond of love.

You are welcome to pay tribute to your poor girl in our Rainbow Bridge section whenever you wish to.

We have got an information thread on how to best care for a bereaved piggy which you may find helpful: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/
We also have got a good standard guinea pig rescues locator on the top bar. The vast majority of our listed rescues will offer bonding at the rescue, so character compatibility and mutual liking can be taken into account. All rescues conduct a mandatory quarantine and pregnancy watch, so you won't run the risk of unplanned surprises. You can look at both sows and neutered boars of any age; it is mosr important that they hit it off! https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/pages/guinea-pig-rescue-locator/

I'm so sorry that you had to make the decision, but it was definitely the right one. I am assuming it was Amir you saw?

Night night little angel.

Hope you're ok.

Yeah it was Amir I saw, he was really lovely and stroked her all the way through.

I think I'm okay. Every time I look at Amber though I get all teary. I guess its going to take time. I just can't believe it. She was so healthy, even Amir said she was in good condition body wise and she wasnt dehydrated or over heating.

So sorry for your loss, you tried everything you could to save her. What a wonderful piggy mum you are!

I am sorry Cat. You did your best. That included seeking support here from many of our trusted members here, helping her to eat and drink and getting to the vets. Popcorn pain free and happy at the bridge little one RIP x

My other guinea pig, will she be okay? She never saw her... Like... Dead. Do you think that's better for her? I kinda get the feeling she knows. That might seem weird, I've say with her and given her a teddy for comfort with a wrapped up piece of fleece that Trixie use to lay on so she has some comfort.
She doesn't seem to be any different than she normally is? Is this because its too soon? Or maybe she likes being on her own? Is that such a thing in guinea pigs?
