Came down this morning (just knew i shoulda got up during the night!) to hear a rattly noise coming from their house...........
Poor Velvey was rattly........ i've given her 0.04ml of baytril as i know you have to get on top of URI's quickly. Made an appointment for her to see Brendan but not till tomoro as he does Uni Vet classes today and the other vet is on maternity leave.......

Keep paws crossed she'll be ok, she is an excellent patient anyways x)

Oh no! This seems to be a frequent thing with your girls. What exactly causes it and can boys get it too?

Yes both sows and boars can get both the URI and UTI's
I don't know what the cause is....... i just know that you have to be on top of it pronto as it can be very dangerous for piggies :...
 
Silly me - I thought URI was urinary tract infection. Just realised it is upper respiiratory infection.
 
Just read up on it on guinea lynx and oh gosh it is dangerous! Poor Velvet, hope she gets well soon.

Yes it is dangerous that is why i'm so glad she told me she was unwell this morning and not later today!
 
I do hope all goes well for Velvet at the vet's tomorrow. I don't envy you the worry you are probably going to go through until then.

Whenever I've realised my Peanut Butter needs dental treatment and it's the weekend I worry and hover over him waiting until 8:30am Monday to call the vet. Poor fella, I keep prodding his mouth open to see how the teeth are as if they are going to grow a foot overnight!
 
There's not much else i can do for her, i have the baytril i'll do the probiotics and i covered them with another little blankie when i left........ Velvet loves to lie out in the open (she doesn't always realise as she's blind)


awww poor little Peanut Butter........ i know what regular toofie trims are like! Did that for over 2yrs with our boy Duke!
 
Since URIs seem to be bacterial, are they infectious? Could Onyx get it from Velvet?

It's like having babies all over again!
 
I've never had one pass on a URI before........

Oh yes they're my babies and will be treated that way....that's why i've been getting up to Onyx during the night, i'll now do this for Velvet just at least for the first few days to keep a strict eye on her (wish i didn't have to work)
 
Sorry to hear about Velvet. She should be ok with nurse Glynis on the case. ;)

One of my girls had a URI a few months back and she never passed it on to my other girls. Wishing Velvet a speedy recovery, sending healing vibes and piggy kisses to both your poorly girls. xoxo
