My oldest piggy Fizz is on her way to the bridge.

She's only been her a couple of months, and was 10 years old on arrival. She's the sweetest, gentlest pig and has been living in with my sow group with her friend She-Ra.

Sadly age has caught up with her and she's now all but gone :( but very peaceful.

Feels like these piggies take a bit of us with them when they go... too many lately.

I'm so sorry:(,i was dreading you posting this i kind of expected it soon because of her age,i hope all goes very painfree and relaxing for her give Fizz some extra hugs from me and the piggies xxxxxx

I am so sorry Sophie. I have never watched a piggy pass so I can only imagine what you are going through. 10 years is a grand age and you have made Fizz's last few months very happy ones. I agree that they always take part of us with them. My Connie certainly did and I'm sure Fizz will too. (((hugs))) xx

The trouble is with each one, you remember all the others.. and there have been so many now. All part and parcel of rescuing I know, but it doesn't get any easier and if it did then it would be time to stop!

I felt awful with Kingsley, the last one to pass, as I had a really busy weekend and I didn't cuddle him like I have the others - I made him comfortable and he died overnight.

I cuddled Fizz all morning yesterday for hours but she wasn't going anywhere and eventually I had to get up and look after the other piggies!

10 years old on arrival? Wow, that's great and really seldom nowadays. You can be proud of the age. I think her life was always great when she was with you. She will take all of your love with her when she goes.

Ah little Fizz is a sweetie. 10 years is a good running... and she is a lucky piggie to have such a happy home.

Thinking of you Sophie,

Charlotte x

Sending love and hugs and hope that Fizz's passing is painless - you're right Sophie, it never gets any easier, but we still let these little furballs worm their way into our hearts, life would be very dull without them. Our thoughts are with you.

Oh Sophie i'm a bit emotional........i know how you feel xxxxxxxxxxxxx
She has had the bestest ever time with you ...........ahhhhhhhhh if only she'd spent her life with mummy Sophie xxxxxxx
Fizz is a beautiful piggie and knows just how much you adore her, WOW she's had so many pigouts with food x) and all the cuddles she could ever imagine x) i'm sure she'll travel to the bridge knowing she was so very very much loved by you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Sophie i hope it's a peaceful time for you both.......xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

I understand how you are feeling as when our Little O had the fatal type of the runs and we knew that whatever we did it would be no good as we had lost two pigs previously from the same thing despite rushing both to the vets. It was just waiting around and trying to keep him as comfortable as possible as he wasn't even taking syringed food :( It's terribly upsetting and that dreadful feeling of powerlessness is just the worst. At least you can take comfort in knowing that Fizz has had a lovely home for the remainder of her life.
xx

Thanks everyone. She's all tucked up and warm, but her breathing is so shallow I can barely see if she's still with us or not without disturbing her. She's completely unaware of everything now, bless her.

I wish I knew what 'that fatal type of runs' is, Julie, I've had a few with that and it's awful not knowing what caused it - Kingsley was one of those.

Thanks for everyone's kind words

Us too, Sophie. We did everything we could, antibiotics, fluids, the vet even hooked the first affected one (Scampy) up to oxygen but we still lost them, and later Little Oscar went the same way. Yet we have Pepe and Dylan who have both had a nasty case of the runs but happily ate and drank and recovered quite nicely after a few days, so it must have been something different that affected the unlucky three.

Anyhow, I don't want to stray too far from the main topic, I hope Fizz has a peaceful last day xx

Bless Fizz - what a grand old lady :)

Hope her final moments are peaceful and perhaps you can draw a little comfort from the fact that you are there with her.

Huge hugs to you both

Oh, poor Sophie! No it doesn't get any easier...

My best wishes for the grand old lady Fizz, who has touched my heart as well with her sweet face. She has had a great home and loving company to enjoy the last of her days. May her walk over the bridge be as gentle as lady herself!

BIG HUG

She's sleeping.. if I disturb her she stirs a bit, but otherwise is far, far away. Told her to go ahead, there are lots of piggies waiting to greet her!

Ah Bless her, her passing sounds as if it will be very peaceful, I'm sure.

Thinking of you...

And I love Zippy as your avatar. I've always loved him,

I just went up to check on her and she woke up.. looked restless, so I carried her out into the sunshine and you wouldn't believe it but she's merrily munching grass! She can't move at all and her back legs are paralysed I think but she's tucking in... just made me cry so much to see her though.

I've left her out there on a good patch of grass, she seems happy there and I'm out in the garden with the other piggies so not far away.

Bless her cotton socks

Oh bless her heart what a brave piggy but huge hugs to you Mrs I know it is not easy but you are doing everything possible for her and sure she is having a fab time on the grass x

Even when they're almost gone they can't resist the best food! She really doesn't want to go, bless her. Thinking of you both. xx

oh what a darling...thinking of you both, such a ripe age and least shes having her final moments with someone who genuinely loves and cares for her like you do.

xxxxx

Beware of the final fling, don't get too optimistic, tempting though it is.

Great lady - why not enjoy what you can?

Bless her! I'm sure that attitude has carries her through her very long life! Not easy for you, Sophie, but hopefully it may help you to let her go in the end...
