Am thinking about Toby this evening, and wondering how he's getting on.

Am sat here watching my own little Toby while reading all about yours. What a heartbreaking situation. The poor little man. I really hope his owner had done everything she could for him before she left and that this isn't down to neglect. If it is down to neglect I hope karma seeks revenge!

Sending all positive thoughts to Toby. It is so wonderful he has you and the sanctuary fighting for him - whatever happens now will be down to nature and not lack of trying.

Think we are all on tenterhooks waiting to hear what Simon has to say.

Big hugs
Abi, Toby & Barney

Hi Abi, Toby and Barney

His owner adores Toby, she really does, but this problem has developed over many months and hasn't ever been properly addressed, although I know that the owner sought veterinary attention on a couple of occasiona. So I don't know if you'd call that neglect. If so, then I'm pretty sure it's down to ignorance and/or bad advice, and not malice or apathy.

Thanks for the positive thoughts....he's going to need all of the positivity we can all muster, I think.

Thanks for all the good vibes and best wishes being sent out to little Toby. He's now been seen by Simon, and the verdict was mixed.

First of all, sorry Debbie if I get this a bit wrong (the line kept crackling when we were speaking earlier).

First off, Simon was worried about Toby's weight, as that stacks the odds against him a bit. Sometimes, they're just "too far gone" when they get down to such a low weight.

His teeth were - as we already knew - very bad, especially bearing in mind his last sedated dental was only about 2 weeks ago. One of his pre-molars or molars was very long, which was kind of 'locking' his teeth together when he was eating (I'd noticed that when I was syringe/spoon feeding him, he would often get 'stuck' and struggle to unlock his teeth). That tooth has now been taken down, and Toby now has full range of movement in his jaw. Hopefully, this means that he might start eating by himself some day soon :-) Simon has doubled-up his pain relief and has taken him off Septrin (which I assume was only given in the first place as a bit of a post-op precaution).

He's going back to to Simon next week for more burring - he may stay in for the day and have his treatment 'little and often' over the course of the day - and Debbie will be caring for him til Simon's happy that Toby's ready to come back to live with me :-)

It's really a case of "watch this space" now, and keep our fingers crossed that Toby's fighting spirit and will to live sees him through!

Well only time will tell and waiting is the worst! Am pleased that he wasn't intentionally neglected by his owner - at least then he was loved while he was poorly. Am sure everyone on the forum will be keeping their fingers crossed over the next week for you and Toby and really, really hoping that he starts to make a good recovery.

Please keep us all updated so we know how the little man is getting on. I hope the week doesn't go too slowly for you.

I somehow missed this thread earlier but see that you're doing a great job trying to get Toby better. It looks like he came to you just in time. I really hope that he can make a full recovery, it won't be for the lack of care on your part.

Just to say I am thinking of Toby and yourself, and hope he can be sorted on the road to recovery, I think he is in the best hands now with Simon. Come on Toby, sending you lots of healing vibes.:laluot_29:

feel better little toby. glad he has been seen by the best, and i hope he makes some progress. healing wheeks from piglet, roger, george and me. xx

Sending best wishes to Toby .... I bet his owner is absolutely devestated as it does sound like she is caring :( I bet she feels awful being overseas when her pet is so unwell.

Toby is doing very well so far. He has far much better movement of his jaw now that Simon has filed his teeth. All in all his teeth are dreadful, but now that they have been filed we are hoping he will start to eat for himself. He has taken a lot of syringe food this evening and is bright and lively. He is likely to need ongoing dental treatment, and he will be seen by Simon again next Wednesday. Depending on how well he's doing we will try and stretch the time between appointments. We have had such great success with dental piggies, but Toby is very underweight and frail. However, he seems a very determined piggy and has a very strong will to survive.

Bless him....everything crossed here that he starts nomming on that lovely hay you've given him! It smelled so good, I nearly had a nibble myself ;-)

Give him a lovely cuddle from me x

Lots of love to you, Toby and his owner - it can be heartbreaking when you just don't know what to do. Debbie is a piggie angel and I'm sure Toby will keep her busy demanding his food :) keep at it little man, we're all rooting for you xx

That's great Debbie :) he will be guzzling it all down before you know it :) Go Toby!

Are there any pictures of the little man, so we know who we're cheering for? :)

Got up this morning to find the absolutely huge mound of softened nuggets gone, but even more exciting is that the finely chopped romaine lettuce and some of the grass appears to have gone too!

Will get some pics of the little guy and post them later. He is an absolutely stunning piggy with the most gorgeous hair. xx

That's brilliant news, it's so uplifting when you get an improvement like that. Looking forward to some pics.

Wow! What a little stunner! x)

Am so pleased to hear he has been eating all by himself overnight. Fingers crossed he continues to head in the right direction.

Sending healing wheeks!

Just caught up with the thread, and am very pleased to hear that so far Toby seems to be doing well - may he continue to do so! Lovely to see a pigture of him, he is very sweet and handsome.

Thank you for the photo - I continue to hope for his full recovery. Well done to those who are looking after him :)

He's a lovely boy. I'm so glad he's heading in the right direction.

Fingers firmly crossed that you have caught him in time and can get him right again! He is a stunner!

What a little champion! You can do it Toby! *Fingers, legs, eyes and paws super crossed*

Wonderful! He is a cutie-pie, I'm hoping that one day he can be back to his former gorgeous self! x

Morning weigh in! Nearly into the 600's

Awww, there's my Toby-licious! I miss him loads! I can't believe he's gone up from 540g (I think he was that yesterday, wasn't he Debbie?) to 598g! That's amazing, he must have stuffed his face overnight with his newly fixed teeth! I know he has a very long way to go yet, but I find it amazing how quickly dental work has an impact on piggies......keep up the good work, Tobes x
