Today, I was shocked to see such a sweet guinea pig, Bacon, actually let me pick him up. The reason I was shocked and frightened was because his beady black eyes were running and it looks almost as if he's crying. His face smells like a mix of rotten eggs, guinea pig poo, and cherries. His mouth is wet, too. He's keeping his eyes half closed, and his head is down. He looks very sick and it's making me cry. :(

Could you ask your parents to read this thread? He needs to see a vet urgently.

My parents are napping at the moment, and they're always very stressed out about everything. I can't find out the right moment to tell them. In the meantime, is there anything I can do to help him?

I repeat what everyone else is saying, he needs the vet as soon as possible. Your other 2 threads show that he is poorly and now this, it sounds like he is very ill with a possible urine infection, respiratory infection and skin issues.

My dad, who just woke up, said he's fine. My mom is still asleep, and I need to talk to her more than my stubborn father. Another problem is that guinea pigs are considered "exotic" and we need to Schedule an appointment. But guinea pigs are exactly like other rodents.

Bacon is also about 2 1/2 years old, a not very common time for guinea pigs to die, but a possible one.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Poor little bacon. I would try explaining calmly that he is acting unusual. Guinea pigs dont cry so something is wrong! I hope you can get them to listen for bacon's sake but for yours too, as it must be very upsetting seeing your baby suffer!

When your parents let you take bacon they were taking on any vet care. Could you ask your dad to look at this thread? It is illegal to with old treatment for a sick animal. Age does not matter with guinea pigs. If they do not get treatment when they are ill then sadly they will die.

Could they come on here and speak to us, we can point out that his symptoms are not normal.

Piggies can fall ill at any time in their lives, and Bacon is very poorly by what you are describing, the fact that he will let you pick him up suggests all is not well, as normally being prey animals they run away. He needs to see a vet ASAP as they hide symptoms for a while before we realise that they are ill. Is Bacon eating or drinking anything?

My mom doesn't want to say anything, and is very tight with money. I think we're just going to let life do its thing.

He is drinking water, and it looks like he's trying to avoid his food. He covered up the bowl with bedding.

He is suffering and it is cruel to leave him to die, if he has fluid on his chest it will not be a nice death, he will drown. Please see if there is a rescue nearby that could take him and get him the veterinary attention he deserves.

That is cruel and illegal. What if Sprite gets sick one day? Your mum is breaking the law. Please ask her to read this thread.

This is not ok. Denying an animal of medical attention is morally wrong and illegal. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you can't afford a vet, then you can't afford a pet. I don't care how small he is!

She isn't breaking the law, she just dOesn't have the time or money. Bacon even looks a bit better... His eyes stopped running and he's getting more active.

Your parents need to take him to any vet that will see him and ask for him to be put to sleep. I know in the US it is not as easy as here but surely there must be one that will do the right thing.

We all feel for you and understand this is not your fault, however your poor boy cannot be left to suffer. You need to speak to one of your parents or if that doesn't work is there another adult member of the family or a parent of your friends you can speak to, to help?

You need to either give the piggie up to a rescue, take him to vets or give him to a close friend or family member who can get him the help he needs.

I can't put this guy to sleep. It'll make me sad. And he could have like the Guinea pig sign of the flu. His dandruff has even gone down.
