have finally finished building our c and c cage for the 4 girls and am concidering getting vet bed to put down instead of shavings as it is a nightmare to clean out with being so large and i will need to take shares out in the stuff soon! just wondering if many other people use it and your views on it esp with clogging the washing machine.

I use it, and have been for two months now and i love it!

For money wise I spent £30 on vetbed which covers my double hutch, and i have three spares and a large piece still left over. Now that seems alot, but i was spending £30 a month on shavings and hay alone. So i switched!

It does need a bit of care everday, the poops need sweeping down and if you use newspaper underneath this needs changing every day however if you uses six or seven double sheets of paper this i found, makes it thick and lasts for two days instead of one :)

I'd suggest maybe using your top cage as a hay loft, and keep a layer of sawdust with hay on top, this isnt too expensive to upkeep...i have an area in the hutch just for hay and sawdust which is used as their toilet area and hay feeding area. It also means the vetbed doesnt become covered in sawdust and hay.

To clean I hang the vetbed on my washing line outside and bat it with the dustpan, and brush it down before popping it in the wash, I was it everyweek on a 50's and i dont use a washing powder which has conditioning or softener in it as this makes the vetbed more absorbant on top, I also put my vetbed in an old pillow case tied so it doesnt fall out the wash:

It dries quickly, and the boys love it!
10/10 for me!

can i ask where you got your vet bed from? to have 2 sets i'm looking at needing 10m! although will need less if i only have it on the bottom layer. :)

I have to agree I changed to vet bed from megazorb as I was spending a fortune on megazorb and it would carry on your feet all through the house. I put my vetbed in an old duvet cover after brushing off outside. Some people also use incontinence pads for (human) beds under the vet bed which cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning. I spot clean every day and remove the news paper every second day. I think I might try the incontinence pads which are also washable.

My 2 boars are on vetbed (I had my 2 sows on it but they messed it all up within a couple of hours) and they seem to prefer it to woodshavings. Yesterday I saw Barry laid out on it so I think he finds it comfy :)

I sweep it once a day and change it every 3 days

I have seen vet bed with like a plastic matted backing on it, is this what I want?

I got told the VetBed with the plastic backing smells quicker, I went on a recommendation from someone else who said to get the green backing. My Cage is lasting 5 days. Were as I was changing twice a week with fleece!

I use non slip vetbed which has a rubber backing on the bottom of the vetbed and i personally had no probelm with it, it keeps the vetbed in place and stops it sliding :)

Thats sellar I used, I Got the Grey with the Green back, he cut to size and did me a fabulous price. I ordered Thursday afternoon my VetBed arrived on the Saturday xx>>>.

I thought he was quick with mine I ordered thursday night arrived monday morning got 4 pieces 2 are 300cm x 50cm and 2are 100cm x 50cm £44 including delivery

Zooplus.co.uk do vet bed too and it's really cheap. I got it for my dogs :)

(It might be called med bed or vet bed on different zooplus sites, but it's the same thing)

Edit: zooplus.ie is cheaper, they call it Metbed? but it's the same thing and works perfectly well. http://www.zooplus.ie/shop/dogs/dog_beds_baskets/dog_blankets/vetbed/129392

100cmX70cm is €20
100cmX140cm is €37, so pretty good
