Vets

It's near where I live but not one I have used for any of my own animals. I've heard it has a good reputation. Sorry can't be more help.

Sorry, not for the last 14 years... And those were somewhat different times.

I have been in touch with them recently discussing costs and options, for one of my girls. I've not had a consultation with them as yet, but mine are registered there. I have been very impressed with the communication. They have an exotics expert who is the head vet at woburn safari park.
I would also be grateful for any feedback as it's only 15 miles from me.

Thank you @Spaghetti & Noodles @Wiebke and @hot fox
We normally take Abigail and Rosie to the Cat & Rabbit to see Simon and Kim, both girls had ops there in January and February this year.
Abi didn't drink her water or eat her nuggets on Easter Monday and was not herself, so started syringe feeding Monday night, she was just holding the syringe food in her mouth but i couldn't get her to swallow. I tried to book an appointment at the Cat & Rabbit on Tuesday morning they said Kim and Simon were away and the locum was fully booked. Rang vets round my area, no luck apart from one so we took her there, they were not a exotics vets and they were terrible said she was fine they could hear her food going through her tummy and she would be ok, i told them this was impossible as she wasn't eating or drinking and she had passed no poos, i came home in tears as i knew she was really poorly. I phoned the Cat and Rabbit and asked if they knew of an other exotic vets they gave the name of two, rang them and they said they were fully booked and could't take any new patients at the moment. She got worse Monday night and so Tuesday morning phoned another vet and they said they would see her at lunch time they were brilliant said they were not an exotic experts but thought she had bloat and the start of an abscess in her mouth and referred us to the Chipping Norton veterinary hospital, we took her straight away. I phoned first thing this morning, Abi has been given pain medication and medicine to help relieve the bloat, she has started to take syringe food and seems a little brighter in herself. The exotic vet is calling me later this morning with an update. Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, not had proper sleep since Sunday night.

Aw poor Abi and poor you, you must feel exhausted with worry and sleepless nights, it’s really hard isn’t it. Hope Abi is on the mend now she’s got some meds x

Sending lots of healing vibes to your girl and wishing you some proper rest soon.
It is clear how hard you tried to get her proper care, and it sounds like she is doing well. You have nothing to feel guilty about

@Abirose I've been to Chipping Norton Vetinary Hospital many times, it's where I've taken my boy Eddie since he's being having teeth problems. I've always had good experiences and the nurses and Nathalie the exotic specialist is lovely :)

The vet has just phoned she is taking her syringe feed, but her bloat is still there, they don't think it has gone down any since yesterday. They are giving her a x-ray/scan later and an ultra sound to see if there is anything else going on. They will call me later with the results.

Thank you so much @Eddie & Elvis, they seemed really good with Abigail, but it's always good to know that someone has had a good experience there x

They've been amazing for me, they got Eddie through a gut stasis episode so I'm sure they'll do everything they can to help your girl. Holding you in my thoughts 💕

HUGS

Fingers very firmly crossed for Abi!

Between the pandemic restrictions and the Eater bank holiday/school holiday, it can be even harder to get emergency care. Glad that you did get her to a vet and into Chipping Norton. These things tend to always happen at the most inconvenient of times in my own experience. :(

I hope Abi is doing ok, it's good to know there is an exotic specialist near by and that people have had positive experiences. I have a very large practice just 5 mins away but doesn't always make it the best one so good to know another near by is a good option. 🤞 Your girl is home soon.

Sorry that Abigail isn’t well but she sounds as if she’s in good hands.
Hope she does recover quickly and you can relax.
Hugs :hug::hug:

We collected Abigail from the vets yesterday evening, they said she was eating and drinking and also passing poos properly. She was brought out to us in her travel case, so didn't see her. When we got home we were quite shocked she is very unsteady on her feet, laying in her pigloo she only eaten a piece of green pepper and a sprig of coriander not touched her nuggets, hay or water. I ve started to syringe feed, she not taking it very well. Abigail has done a couple of poos but they are very long and thin. She is very lethargic. The medication they have sent her home with are...
Loxicom 0.07 ml once a day
Ranitidine 0.55ml twice a day
Cisapride 0.12 three times a day
I am going to ring the vets as soon as they open but would really appreciate any help and advice.
Thank you

I’m sorry to hear that. Definitely do give them a call

Pain killer - is she on dog or cat metacam? and what is her weight? 0.07ml once a day is such a tiny amount.

It’s great you’re seeing poops. Being small would signify a disruption in her gut and food intake and as poop output is 1-2 days behind food intake, it’ll take a few days of normal food intake before you see normal poop output. .

Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Thank you @ Piggies& buns
Sorry i don't know it doesn't say dog or cat i will ring and ask.
Also she is bunny hopping which she wasn't doing before she went in, is that a pain sign?

It is very disappointing that she has been discharged in such a poor state. It sounds like she is very weak and that she hasn't been getting much food. Did they say how much syringe food they have been giving her? Are you sure the Loxicom dose is 0.07ml, or is it 0.7ml? You also need to find out if it is the dog or cat variety. What does it say on the label? Could you ring Cat and Rabbit Clinic on Monday at 8 am and try and get an appointment with Simon or Kim?

Thank you Debbie,
I am waiting to ring them they don't open until 9am
Will ring the Cat and Rabbit first thing Monday morning.
It doesn't say on the bottle its just a small brown bottle with their label printed with just Abigail's name, Loxicom and the amount to give her it says 0.07ml once a day.

That's not good...even if dispensed to a different bottle, I have always found the medication info printed on the label. Whichever it is, that is a tiny amount and will do absolutely nothing and once a day isn't right either. At least you can find out at 9 am.

Spoke with vets, he was quite abrupt said it's dog loxicom and it would have been worked out by her weight, she is about 1100g.
They said we could take her back, they had only syringe fed her Wednesday night as she has been eating on her own, i have tried every food with her and she only managed a sprig of coriander. i said she is bunny hopping he didn't know what i meant, i said hopping like a bunny instead of walking like a guinea pig, he just said we can take her back in before 2pm. I don't know what to do.
