poor little Coco! Hope she makes a speedy recovery!

She's on chloramphenicol eye drops as the normal fucithalmic ones arnt strong enough...
I found the culprit for her eye injurie...

Can't beleive I didn't notice it when I put the hay in... I feel so guilty...
I genuinely thought penny may have bitten her as she's been being a madam lately...

At least you found the cause and none of the others can hurt themselves on it now. Feel better soon CoCo!

Oh dear, we do seem to be having more than our fair share of hay/eye problems on here lately don't we? I've been sorting through my hay even more carefully than usual since Wally Whiskers lost his eye ( and I was thorough before) but it's impossible to catch all hazards. You can only do your best and reduce the risks as much as possible, there will always be some bits that slip through. (((((hugs)))))
Hope her eye heals quickly.

On a slightly positive note, one of my sows had her eye punctured through a bite wound and the inside of her eye was coming through the lens. She was seen by the vet, who in turn stitched her eye closed for seven days to give it chance to heal, and just to say that she has made a full recovery now, with just a tiny scar on the surface which you can barely see. So I am sure your Coco will make a full recovery.

Well over the last couple days coco's eye got worse...
And it was operated on today...
They have cut the infection out and cleaned her eye up and sewn it shut...

Here's her eye before the op...

And here's her Frankenstein eye...

The op was done at 5pm and I collected her at 7pm... She's on critical care and probiotic and metacam and baytril...
She's still very dopey from the anistetic but is taking her feeds well..

awww poor lass, you have had such a crap time hon, I'm sorry.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Coco x

Keep your chin up xx

Oh poor coco. I thought they would remove the eye rather then sew it up. I really hope she improves and becomes stronger soon.

They've cut the infection out of her eye and sewn it up... In ten days they will remove the stitches and she won't be able to see out of it... But will still have the eye...
It's a easier op for them to go through... About 20mins... Where as removing the eye would take an hour and they have to cut tricky blood vessels...

Oh poor girl, healing vibes for Coco :laluot_29:
And (((((hugs))))) for you, you really are going through it at the moment. As you probably already know Wally Whiskers had his eye out last Friday, which as you've pointed out is a longer op and he's fine now so hopefully Coco will bounce back a.s.a.p now that they've got rid of the infected part. x

I keep missing loads of threads, I don't think half of them show up sometimes. When I'm looking for updates I have to go searching because a lot of new posts aren't showing up for me even though when I finally find them the threads HAVE had new posts. mallethead

She's a little trooper... :)
She's on a fair dose of metacam so I'm sure that's one of the reasons she's chipper... :))
Syringe fed her up untill this morning and a couple times in the night... But she's competently eating and drinking now so I'm leaving her to it... :)
I know I would be feeling really sorry for my self if I was in her shoes... She's the most amazing old dear... :)

When she first came to me... She had been bred from so many times back to back that for the first time in her life she wasn't pregnant... And her hormones were so messed up she lost lots her hair and bloated out... Looking like she was pregnant...

Oh beautiful girl. How awful she was breed like that. :(

People drive me mad some times... In the woman's words... 'she's a right breeding machine that one' grrrr
She'd had atleast 15 litters... The woman couldn't quite remember... Which put her at about 3 and a half years old... And she looked so poorly bless her... :(
I couldn't bare to let her be re-homed so I kept her in with my guys and she's now a fantastic foster mom... Any rejected babies get lots of love from her... :)
She'll be on the mend soon and back to plodding round with the golden oldies... :))
x

Oh poor poor baby. That woman is so horrible. Talk about heartless. I wish all guinea pigs could be saved from scum like her. Thank goodness she is with you now.

15 litters blimey! that must take a lot out of a piggie!

she is so gorgeous - I bet she had gorgeous babies too
