Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted; the piggies had all been doing really well up until recently. Daisy's eating speed has decreased a lot and was displaying symptoms of pain despite being on metacam + vegetarian glucosamine.

We took her in on Friday to see the exotic vet (A new one at the practice) she is really knowledgable and talkative. She couldn't fully see everything as Daisy's mouth had food in. However from what she could see; Daisy's molars are overgrown.

So Daisy is due to have a dental today (Monday) , she had her first 5 months ago (back in February). When she was diagnosed with arthritis of her jaw. She has remained well and stable for 5 months so I think we've done pretty well.

Something that is worrying me is that after Daisy's last dental shortly after she developed her first abscess. Now this could of been coincidental but it was only a few days after. She was even on septrin and yet still developed an abscess. I've discussed with the vet about potentially putting Daisy on an antibiotic as a precaution; given her past experiences.

She had 3 nasty abscesses and required two operations to lance and drain. Poor girl had 3 operations in just under 3 weeks, she was so poorly. Fortunately she's been abscess free for 3 months now, we want her to stay that way. I know that it's only really recommended to give Zithromax when there's actually a problem. However surely a short course post dental as a precaution is worth it to prevent an abscess relapse!?

I'm so worried about my little girl. She's looking uncomfortable right now. Just hoping by this time tomorrow that she's back to her 'new' normal. Dalila has been barbering her, I think she knows she's poorly hence why she's doing it as she's not done it in a while.

I best go to sleep as we have to leave at 8 am to drop her off at 08:30 am. Vibes for my little one will be very much appreciated.

Just spoke to my mum on the phone, Violaine the exotic vet rang. Daisy is doing fine, recovering from her anaesthetic. She had a nasty hook tooth digging into her tongue, her molars were also slightly overgrown. She also did an X-ray to see if there was any change from last time. Which fortunately there wasn'T she reckons that Daisy will need a dental every 3-6 months. She said she shouldn't have the problems that she does at her age; as she's very young. Makes you wonder with the breeding from where we got them, although *touch wood* Jasper her brother is fine and her son Edmondo her son is too. Just hope they stay that way! She's going to ring us later to let us know how she is and if she's eating; she can come home!

glad she is recovering well from the anaesthetic and fingers crossed she starts eating soon and can come home later x

Hope she's recovering well. Sounds quite an ordeal for her, poor little love.
xx

How's daisy doing?
Healing vibes from the girls &I :)
Speedy recovery. Xx

Oh hi everyone! Sorry I had not been back on the forum to let you all know how she was.

She's not recovering as well as hoped really, she's only gained 10 grams and is eating quite slowly still. She is munching on some hay and readigrass and everything else but just not at her usual pace.

I've been giving her critical care feeds as much as possible, so far today she's had 30ml, going to get another 2/3 feeds in today.

She's getting there, very slowly. I'm going to speak to Violaine on Monday when we go in for our appointment about putting her on tramadol as well as the metacam. The metacam doesn't seem to be doing the whole job anymore.

I agree deff tramadol would be a better pain killer. If she's free of pain she will feel better about eating. Hope she is feeling better soon x

Poor little lady :( It's hard nursing them and seeing them like that. I have my fingers crossed for her still! x

Daisy has been admitted, weight keeps dropping off her. She's in pain despite being put onto tramadol when we went back Saturday. It's been a week since her dental and we really expected her to be eating back to usual and for her weight to be going back up. She is also fighting off syringe feeds and it's increasingly difficult for me to do it on my own. What with my mum on holiday and my brother and dad not being the most helpful. So they are going to see if they can get her pain managed, do assisted feeding and will phone me tomorrow. If no improvement she most likely will need bloods taken as there could be something going on. She has Dalila there to keep her company so she should be ok although Dalila is nervous at the vets. So stressed and worried, was up with her two hours through the night attempting to get her to eat various things.

Aww Jack :( I'm sorry she's not doing so great! I hope that this stay in the Vets can get her oain managed and hopefully get her to put some more weight on! Sending healing vibes!
I know its easier said than done but try and get some rest now, I know your probably worrying but she's in safe hands, and you've done the best you can for her so far :)

Oh gosh! I'm really sorry to read that she's struggling, poor little love, and poor you, doing everything you can for her. Hopefully things will improve now she's under the vet's care... fingers crossed xx

So sorry she's struggling :( you've done so much for her though and like Cat said, she's in safe hands so try and rest up a bit!

Fingers firmly crossed for her to make a good recovery xx
